I say that if they want to do it, they will not release it in 2017. They will release it when the competition releases theirs. They research, they get feedback from publishers and developers and they create the infrastructures and architectures that will allow easy porting and early software support. So, they seriously need to think about a system that will support 3rd parties and not just themselves and their creative juices. Until then, they stick to the Wi U and show how commited they are to their products, just like Sony did with the PS3, earning great consumer trust.
A weak console is what the Wii was. In truth a console one generation behind. If its a gimmick console aimed at the casual market, it doesnt need to be any stronger than the Wii U. They need a low price and a gimmick that appeals to the casual market through the simple gimmick.

Well they definitely with Wii U sales like this can't wait 2019/2020 for Sony/MS to release their consoles, no to mention that in that case Wii U would Nintendo console with longest life and in same time with worst sales.
Nintendo needs to relase NX home console in 2016. or in 2017. latest.

They already done all this, they basically start talking about new platform from beginning of 2014. Very likely they start working on NX software also in 2014, and definitely some unanounced WiiU/3DS project were moved to NX.
About hardware, Nintendo knows that today multiplats are very important, and that they can't have successful console with out any multiplats, and if they want multiplats they need to have X1/PS4 similar power in order to easy 3rd party ports for NX. NX will again aim mass market and again will have some "gimmick", with low price ($249), but will have similar power of X1 at least.

Nintendo isn't Sony. They don't live off the home console. Their big market is the portable market. Also, what point is there in rushing into another failed product? That will just make it worse. They aren't losing money on the Wii U and their software still sells decently. They can hold it out if they want.
They obviously haven't done any research because if they are matching PS4/X1 they are far too late and will not get multiplats just due to the enormous lag on installed base. If they make a more powerful and more expensive console, it will meet the same fate the Wii U did, and they will lose any third party support when the new gen starts.
Also, the Wii U is only 3 years old. It has had people clamoring for its death since year one. So, logic dictates it should stay until 2017. If it would need to stay longer, it wouldnt be a shock. The last gen was pretty long and i think consumers quite like that.
What you say is a possibility. Won't say it isn't, but wether it will be sucessful is a different story. That will fully depend on how appealing the gimmick is to the casuals. But, is that the Nintendo we want? *shrugs*
I'm only interested in the Nintendo of the SNES/N64/GC/WiiU. If they go back to the casuals i wish them luck, but i wont be sailing with it, thats for sure.
With that said, they have said that the NX isnt the sucessor of the Wii U, so... chances are still that its some crazy gadget or the new portable, since the sucessor to the 3DS should debut before the sucessor of the Wii U.
