Doing something like this would weaken the strong position that Mario has now. To a large extent, Mario is synonymous with quality -- games like Galaxy and Mario Kart Wii just reinforce this belief (Mario Kart Wii being the best one yet). Nintendo will do whatever it can to protect it's top quality series. Unlike another company I won't name that seems content pushing stuff out before it's finished and calling it "Lair" and then blaming factor 5.

Oh yeah I can see MArio games reaching 100 million units. :p Especially with all the Mario games still to come: Sluggers, the Mario Parties, the unavoidable -Tennis and -Golf editions, a Paper Mario sequel, maybe even another full-fledged platformer... plus all the DS stuff. :p

7 games above 5 million; all 13 games above 1.5M.

Pending what new Mario games are shown at E3, I'd put the over/under for generation to date Mario sales through the end of December at 85 million.

I figure 2-3M more for M&S, 3-4M more for MK Wii, 1M+ more for SMG, MKDS and NSMB each, 1M+ for Mario Sluggers, 1M+ more for the rest of the back catalog, and at least 1, maybe 2 more Mario releases for later in the year.

Mario games sell because they are well designed and programmed. I personally don't like Mario sunshine but I can't deny it is a quality game from heads to toes.
