Doing something like this would weaken the strong position that Mario has now. To a large extent, Mario is synonymous with quality -- games like Galaxy and Mario Kart Wii just reinforce this belief (Mario Kart Wii being the best one yet). Nintendo will do whatever it can to protect it's top quality series. Unlike another company I won't name that seems content pushing stuff out before it's finished and calling it "Lair" and then blaming factor 5.
