I think Japan sales are also worth watching out for. Phantom menace did $109Mil in Japan.

Furious 7 = $182Mil in China
Jurassic World = $99Mil in China

Well then, $200M opening confirmed :p

Episode III took in 9MM in 2005; Jthe earlier Ps and the FFs (aside from FF6 at 66MM) have no numbers for China.

No data points to use here, really. HP went from 11MM in 2005 to 61MM in 2011, though.

It is already playing in Japan since the 18th so far it made $31.3 million dollars there.  So it will more then likely not even come close to what The Phantom Menace made there.

Interesting article about what Disney has been doing to drum up sales for TFA in China.

True, but then again it has only been 10 days of sales. It may have legs that bring double sales, although I do agree I don't see it doing PM or Frozen numbers.

Age of ultron increased from the original Avengers, from 88mil to around 240 I believe. The market in China is becoming huge, it's just a question if they will embrace Star Wars.

Star Wars was so huge in Japan, Revenge of the sith has the all time opening weekend record there, I don't understand what went wrong with TFA, maybe they were disappointed with the prequels to a level that it caused the hype for TFA to diminish a lot? Who knows, hopefully it has legs as movies in Japan nowadays are known for there legs, JW in its opening made less than 10% of it's total run there, Furious 7 and MI:RN did similar percentage wise as well,  AoU did do a bit worse though with 25% coming in it' opening, although it being the holidays in Japan, I'm sure TFA will un more like JW then like AoU. I'm thinking it can get 80-100 million.

The market has evolved so rapidly that I think the performance of earlier films, even from just a few years ago, is not indicative of where it is today.

It's pretty obvious now that SW is going to take down Avatar in the US. In fact, it should already be about on par with it after this weekend. My guess is it'll end around $850M-$900M. I think it may end up a little short in the foreign box office, but the US box office may be enough to push it over Avatar.

I'm hoping it could do 1 billion in the domestic box office, it would need to fall off a cliff for it to only do 850 million seeing as it should be at around 750 million at the end of thi weekend. It's lead at that point will be 250 million higher than JW at the same respective number of days, and if it mimicks JW to it's daily making (money made not percentage wise example 4mil for JW and 4 mil for TFA) it will end at 900 million, but it's doubtful that it doesn't continue to outpace JW, that's why I think 1 billion is doable at this point, especially if Disney really push it and if it gets a nomination at the golden globes, possibly for best picture.
