It was made to appeal to the very basic of cinema goers. Basically, the kind of movie where you leave your brain at the door. I think Disney excel in making these types of movies.

| Pavolink said: Bumping it (and other TFA threads) because I saw it days ago. Without a doubt, weakest SW films. Not bad, but cheese and predictable. Far away from the OT and doesn't have it's own flavor like the prequels. This is like some said, an unsuccessful copy of A New Hope. Anyway, I hope Episode VIII and IX explains what is Voldemort doing in SW and why the copy of Darth Vader is a big joke. |
I downloaded it ages ago and watched it more than a few times but I agree. To me, it's just mediocre. Not really good. Not really bad. Just kinda "there". And that's why it's my last favorite. Even the prequels, love them or hate them, all had a " Ooooh, that explains it! " feel to it.

Meh, the prequels are just so poorly executed, the dialogue, acting, is so atrocious.
TFA is maybe like dating a bit of a plain looking girl but she's nice enough and you have a good enough time. Maybe she's not the girl of your dreams but she's OK.
The prequels are like dating a girl that may look a little better at first glance, but she can't go 10 minutes without ripping a loud fart and you notice half way through the date that she hasn't shaved her armpits.
I actually watched it resently and thought it was decent... not fantastic, but not bad either.
Is not the best Star Wars but is one of the most enjoyable to see nowadays, it has a lot of the good things of the old movies and a very similar feel, but with a modern execution.
However the plot is sometimes inconsistent, some characters are weak and overall feels too similar to Episode IV, like a reboot with a worse ending.
But I really liked it tbh. And even if you dont liked it I think there are reasons to be excited for the next one, because the direction is taking the saga now looks promising, the epic lameness of the "modern" trilogy is long time gone and nowhere to be seen here, and that's a good thing.
My ranking is:
1. Episode V: Empire Strikes Back
2. Episode IV: A New Hope
3. Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi
4. Episode VII: The Force Awakens
5. Episode III: Revegne of the Siths
6. Episode II: Attack of the clones
7. Episode I: Phantom Menace

But even crazy farts and pits, she still stands out, it only for his much fun you have talking about her to your friends about how horrible she was. The other girl? Maybe you can't say anything bad about her but if you talk about her to your friends, they'd just say "What's the point of this story?"
Sometimes, being mediocre is worse than being bad.

To be honest nothing all that important happens in either Episode I or II, Ep I is entirely pointless and could have just been dropped entirely.
That leaves III to rush everything ... Anakin goes from being a good guy at 9 AM one day, to murdering Mace Windu by 4 PM that same day, to being knee deep in dead youngling children by 6 PM that same day ... it's laughably stupid. The whole point of the prequels (Anakin's turn) is extremely poorly handled on top of all the other embarrassing moments (Jar-Jar, midichlorians, Anakin and Padme's "shoot me in the face please I can't bear another minute of this" romance, Count "Bent Penis" Dooku, General Saturday Morning Cartoon Greivious).
An Indiana Jones movie about ALIENS is original and fresh too ... yeah ... I think I'd rather watch the "retreaded" Last Crusade 10/10 times instead.
It's miles away better than the prequels, and I think it's best in general than Episode VI, which I find very uneven, although the final scenes are maybe some of my favourite scenes of the entire franchise. But the general experience was better with TFA, because of the introduction of brand new characters, and with chemistry, a weak and conflicted villain (I was sick of the fucking badass all-mighty villains), an emotional climax with THAT scene (you know what I'm talking about), excellent cinematography, beautiful landscapes and scenarios, excelent action scenes... Yeah, the plot is similar to Episode IV, so what? A movie is not just the plot, that's narrow it down too much. I think it's just ridiculous to say that a movie is bad just because its plot have resemblances with A New Hope. That's its weak point, I agree, but nothing too aggravating to make me not enjoy the film a lot. I'm very excited about the next films, because the foundations are really, really good. TFA is about taking a step backwards (I really had to forget the prequels), and, now, it's time to go forwards. Exciting times for the SW fans :). My personal top would be.
1. Episode V: Empire Strikes Back
2. Episode IV: A New Hope
3. Episode VII: The Force Awakens
4. Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
5. Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
6. Episode I: The Phantom Menace
>>>>>>>>>>>>
100000. Episode II: Attack of the Clones (it's THAT bad, I really have to try hard that this doesn't exist).
Anakin Padme honestly is the worst "romance" subplot I've seen in a major Hollywood film in the last 30 years. Not even joking. It's *that* bad.
Even the elf-lady and the dwarf guy in The Hobbit had more chemistry.
