We pronounce Nike based on other English words (bike, like, spike etc), but yes it should be ny-ki Pretty sure we pronounce Adidas correctly (exactly as it is spelt)... I have heard people pronounce it with an elongated e sound instead of short i (adeedass) but I thought that was a US pronunciation. I have never heard anyone say addadass. |
My ex-wife is Australian and she, along with all of her friends and every other Aussie I've known didn't know how to say Adidas. It's pronounced "uh-dee-dis".
Personally, like I said earlier in the thread, I don't care how people talk. Inncorrectly, correctly... whatever. Language is an ever evolving, ever changing thing and besides, life is way too rough on people when they care about things that are so frivolous. I'll comment on it for a laugh or just general discussion but I no longer get angry or passionate about it.

That's your problem right there. US english is an oxymoron. |
American English is closer to the original British English than the current British English is, because British English has been influenced a lot by Europe. So if you wanna talk semantics, US English is closer to the "original" English than British English is.

I had never heard it pronounced 'nitch' before I watched a US show that used niche in it's dialogue. It made me stop and go "Wait what? Oh, they meant niche (pronounced like quiche)..." I was just under the impression that actors just mispronounced it on purpose as an in joke because it was that kind of a comedy, but thanks to this thread, I now realise Americans just pronounce it differently to every other English speaking country. You guys seem to like doing things different just for the sake of it :P

Like Peach but starting with a Knee sound, Kn-Each but less emphasis on the H sound at the end.... damn tis hard to explain, I think the best way I could explain it is... I say it wrong!
