Forums - Gaming - Sony did it, what should Microsoft (Xbone) and Nintendo (WiiU) do to make a comeback?

Wait for Sony to go bankrupt and sell the Playstation division. Its much more closer to reality than MS selling off the Xbox division.

They turned the company around decently in the past year or so.  They just need to sell off their phone division.  I believe their TV division finally made a profit recently.

Xbone seems to be selling fine to me, only thing they should do is target Europe better.

PS3 was on pace from day one to pass the 360, so there never was any comeback. It never caught up to the Wii, so there was no comeback there.

And there will be no comeback for the Xbone or WiiU either. Nintendo is already going to drop their new console next year, and MS has done a complete 180 since their reveal, but the damage is done and it's too late for them this gen barring some sort of massively expensive gaming endeavor, which it doesn't make sense for them to do. Sales are nice for Internet graphs and such but as long as the console is making money, it doesn't make sense to spent a ton just to sell some more.

It doesn't matter what they all do (within reason), the order for this gen is set.

You should clarify that this is about home consoles. Because last time i check the vita was still a disaster and far from making a comeback.

Microsofts chance was last month with Halo 5 and Tomb Raider. They got thrashed by Sony who beat them in black friday sales too.

Halo 5 didn't even make it to top 5 and Tomb Raider never even charted. Abysmal stuff from Microsoft especially with their biggest franchise. Looking into next year, they have no games that will boost sales significantly and with Sony releasing their big hitters next year Microsoft are going to fall further behind.

Sony are also releasing PlayStation VR which will keep them in the news and keep the sales momentum going.

I suppose they could keep dropping the price of the console but that hasn't worked so far and will only further devalue the console compared to the PS4.

They have a tough road ahead. I'd say keep up what they are doing and ride this generation out and come out with a powerhouse next gen

For Microsoft: more new IP's, and next year will be great for this, with Scalebound, Quantum Break, Sea of Thieves and ReCore. One thing that worries me is their low focus on third-party deals. Considering Sony/Activision (Destiny and Call of Duty), a deal between Xbox and EA for Battlefield 5 marketing would be great. About sales: I don't see Xbox One catching up to the PS4 worldwide, but in US and UK I see a good possibility for that.

The Wii U's life cycle is going to end so there isn't much Nintendo can do to boost sales, other than a price drop

Will just need to hope that the NX does well

Nintendo can´t do anything for the Wii U, except to release soon the NX and try to not jinx it.
But for the future, being less stubborn and revive their old ambition from the past gens.

Nothing?
When MS doesn't 1) launch cheaper and 2) launch earlier, then Sony automatically wins (and even then they still did in the end..), every other factor being totally irrelevant. They have to keep their current MAU worship and abandon any pretense of market share or delusions of leadership.
Can't write about Nintendo cause kowai

Why are they creeping you out?

It's as close to the reality as the latter... which says a lot, since the latter has been pretty much confirmed that it's "not going to happen" in the foreseeable future...

I hope their next console uses an i7 and nVidia graphics card, especially since the i7 is falling in price sharply...

For the last flipping time, the PS3 did not make a comeback. Barring 2008, the PS3 always sold more than 360 year to year, and launch aligned, it sold way more than 360. It's not a "comeback" when you always outsell your competitor. Negative press and lower sales in the US made it seem like it was doomed, but, overall, the PS3 was fine from the jump.

So, stop using it as a point of reference when asking what XBOne or WiiU can do to increase sales.
