It only goes to show that graphics is hitting the wall of diminishing returns. It's honestly getting harder to tell the difference between generations.

I dont believe that at all. The difference between Uncharted 4 and 3 is clearly noticable, as is the difference between Killzone 3 and SF or even Battlefield 3 and 4. Even in the PC space, there was a noticable difference between DX10 games and DX11 titles and the same will be true when DX12 hits. Current XBox One and PS4 exclusives make their cross gen launch titles look extremely dated.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

I just don't see it. Graphics became good enough last gen IMO. Now all graphical upgrades do is make shapes a little softer and things a little shinier here and there.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Not trying to bad mouth WiiU, but the only way I would confuse a WiiU game for a PS4 game was if I were thinking it's a pretty well crafted Indie or cell shaded game. Sorry it isn't comparable. Yet when in other threads I say that there are WiiU fans that think they are, people say I'm lying.

Sorry for the wall text and a lot of Quotes, but it's better than 10 separated quotes.

Developers are pushing the Wii U to its limits!

You're missing the point there

Only if you think the OP is missing the point when he puts the point in his text saying WiiU games could pass as PS4 games with MINOR improvements

I think, you meant ps3.

Maybe you should see what a ps4 game looks like before making silly comments like these. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHQFODsdGDU

After watching both videos, I didn't find Driveclub much more advanced visually. It's most impressive advantage is having much more foliage in the background (if you know how much power they can cost). However, the game couldn't hold a stable 30 fps if it's life depended on it, and the stuttering framerate is noticable througout almost the entire video, sometimes very strongly, too.

As a stuttering framerate is an absolute no-go for me in fast-paced games like racers, the visual prowess of Driveclub comes at way too much of a cost for me. If it had been slightly scaled down to Fast Racing Neo-like graphics it could have achieved a playable framerate, but as it stands it's just a slighly playable diashow slightly prettier than FRN.

What a crazy comparison. But you could always choose GT6 or Wipout HD as options. Would you say they look better than Driveclub because their have bigger or more stable fps? You aren't even comparing apples and oranges. You are going from 2 extremes and saying one is better because you like it more.

Someone does a thread about the way developers push the wiiu limits and people comes just to remember everyone that wiiu is weaker than the rest. Oh really? :O We had no clue!

The OP maybe didn't, he is claiming that the WiiU games could pass as PS4 games with minor improvements.

Alright, everyone. No Wii U game is as technically impressive as a AAA PS4 game. The hardware just makes that next to impossible. But that's not the point of this thread. The point is to discuss the impressive optimization efforts of Nintendo. The fact that we could even have this discussion with such a difference between the hardware displays just how impressive Nintendo's optimization skills are. It makes me wish even more that they had made the Wii U more powerful, and that we could have seen just what they were truly capable of.

All companies are making improvements and optimization. The fact that we can have this discussion just show how badly informed OP is not how much the system is optimized.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. FRN looks better than a PS3 game.  And before you say anything, I own both games (Drice Club and Fast Racing).  FRN is gorgeous. Of course, it's not as beautiful as PS4 game, but that doesn't mean that the graphics are last gen.

FRN looks better than FF XIII, GT6, TLOU and everything else? Are you sure that isn't only your opinion? And no one said it's last gen, just that it wouldn't pass as a PS4 game.

Aside from Xenoblade X, I am not sure that Nintendo's focus has really been on pushing hardware the way that western developers do. What's the point when the XOne and PS4 will always be miles ahead in the graphics department?

Irrespective of graphics, I think the more important observation is that Nintendo has been getting progressively better at developing games at the HD standard over the past 3 years. Back in 2013, even a game like Pikmin 3 (which basically was re-using Wii assets) was stumping Nintendo. Now, all of Nintendo's 1st and 2nd party developers are cranking out 720p games and while there are still delays they do seem to be hitting their stride. This is actually really good news for Nintendo heading into the NX, especially if the NX will be producing PS4 level graphics. I think that the Wii U was a necessary step for Nintendo to get back on even footing with Sony and Microsoft... They needed this intermediary, less successful console for Nintendo to make some of the necessary advances that the Wii neglected. Now Nintendo is in a better position to go guns-a-blazing with the NX if they choose to take Sony and MS on directly.

You'll push the hardware to make better games even if your system is weaker, actually even more when it's weaker. And that doesn't exactly means pushing for graphics.

Natural evolution on developing. But sure they are puting better games and have a better output rate nowadays. And 720p to 1080p will show some more difficults, or could show 0 difficults if they have been developing to release as 1080p and them on optimization cap the res.

I don't think they needed the intermediary, they could have gone straight for PS4 ballpark, maybe 1/e of X1 capability. That would allowed them to make their games 1080p60fps on the style they develop. This intermediary only made their life harder... but we can't be sure if the console would've been successfull if they released a stronger console. I don't think power was the main component of bad sales.

I have the ps3 and nothing has made me want to buy a ps4

comparing wii/ wii u the bump in quality is really noticeable so I bought it almost day one

Typically I don't care, but when you start "justifying" purchases with a bump in quality that depends on the company, then it annoys me. It's dumb.

I also get annoyed when people say "I don't want to buy a ps4 because it has no gamez" or "I don't want a wii u because it is for children." These things are really annoying

He didn't say PS4 has no games though or anything of the sort, to me his comment came across more as him or her saying that the PS4 has not yet met their expectations of it based on their experience with the previous console, your reaction to it just seems ott.

Well if he can be satisfied by WiiU technical aspects what is the problem with PS4? If it's gaming prefference I would understand, but then it would make little sense the jump from PS3 to WiiU (and crazy enough both are closer on capabilities than PS4 to PS3).

I know he didn't say that. I was saying that his original "justification" for wanting a wii u and not wanting a ps4 was, quite frankly, dumb. Just like it's dumb to say "ps4 has no games" or "wii u is for kids."

He was literally holding the wii u at a lower expectation because of it's weaker predecessor. He was holding the ps4 at a higher expectation because of its stronger predecessor. That's a double standard. I called him out on it. That's it.

Do you know the extent of his enjoyment with the original Wii? You may consider it weaker in quality but he may not it seems you're making assumptions on him or her on one line of text, it's often been said Wii U's library for a console with out thrid party support is surprisingly strong and it's not uncommon to find people who consider it the more entertaining library at the moment so it impressing him more wouldn't be odd at all regardless.

LOL I am pretty sure when they said "with a resolution upgrade it could pass as a ps4/one game" they didn't mean a AAA game developed by 100s of people.

People forget this is an indy dev with FIVE people in it.

Well, when the OP don't give his opinion on it, it can be understood as WiiU games in general could pass as PS4 games.

If we are talking about indies, when you have games that look like Snes games on PS4 any WiiU Indie could look exacly the same on PS4 and WiiU. So We would need even more information to judge.

yeah agree with that, but the OP is discussing about pushing Wii U limits.

Not only about that. When he put it pretty much in the OP that WiiU games could pass as PS4, that opens the door.

What the developers drag out of the Wii U is astonishing. Especially when you consider its using a fraction of the power of the ps3, ps4, Xbox, Xbox 360 and the Xbox One. Wii U might be the most well balanced power/power usage console in gaming history. That is what you guys really need to wrap your head around.

Errrrr no. You may put the most relevant part for you on a console is the raw power/watts. I and possible most doesn't put watts consumption above raw power. If it costs the same to make a 1.5 Tflop  console consuming 100W and 200Gflop consuming 10W I would choose the first 10 times in a row. Nothing against saving and reducing cost and consumption, but when it comes to a choice betewen one or other for a console I choose the first.

It would be much easier to breath gas fumes if it was air.

No Shit!

This is saying the Wii U is being maxed out. Everyone knows the PS4 and many PC units are stronger than a U.

Some people just feel threated, have buyers remorse, are shadenfreuds, need superiority affirmation or simply loyalty reassurance to validate their allegience to something successful. Their selfdom is too frangible to resist a moment of status consolation.

Could you please show where and from whom you are seing it? And which status of consolation are you talking about?

That is both self-evident and at the same time entirely irrelevant to the OP's point.

The point was, obviously, that as the title of the thread states, developers are pushing Wii U hardware. It's a discussion of Wii U hardware and graphics. Not a comparison to other hardware.

If you read the OP and not only the title you would note that he talked about WiiU games looking like PS4.

Yeah, I beg to differ.

I'm shocked at how many people are saying PC games are asthetically boring and how many Nintendo Fanboys are on the site.  Those Xenoblade Texture pop ins and 90% terrible shorelines.  These games have no anti-aliasing, terrible jaggies and look not even half as good as Witcher 3, but "the only difference between PS4 and Wii U graphics are resolution".

JAGGIES

Jaggies in MK8 doesn't look really that bad when you see game in motion in comparison with those screen shots. MK8 looks beautiful in motion even with jaggies, everytime when I playing MK8 after longer break I say to my self how beautiful game looks.

Curiously enough you didn't complained about the point of Driveclub being almost bad looking because of minor problems in consistancy.

Well I guess people with better set of eyes are enjoying the transition and the differences. But if you were satisfied staying on a previous gen or chosing a less powerfull platform there is no problem. But don't try to pass your experience as absolute truth.
