People keep saying Xbox One has been doing everything right after launch... But that just shows how wrong the launch was. All those "right" Xbox One has been doing is just "copying" the competitor.
Removing DRM
Remove Kinect for price parity
Remove apps like netflix behind a paywall
Give free games like ps+
Remote control or streaming through windows 10
Sure they have improved their OS but this was inevitable after making kinect optional.
All those improvements it's not them gettinf better than the competitor but catching up the competitor.
Now Backward compatibility is totally them and deserve all the credit for going that way.

I guess you missed all those monthly updates that make every major PS update look small.

Their OS is just fast now. Way faster than the competition and its predecessor.

I agree that the Xbox One has had a good year. They've done a lot of things right. Unfortunately for Microsoft, though, a lot of those things are relatively minor considerations for most people when buying a new console. Digital backwards compatibility and $150 add-on controllers are not going to swing many consumers. Halo, their 'killer app', seems like a good game but not the game-changing IP it was in the past. Tomb Raider probably shares a lot of its fan base with Uncharted but that's a match-up it's going to lose in terms of overall consumer interest.

If I had to turn this into a baseball analogy--and I do have to turn this into a baseball analogy--then I'd say that Microsoft hit a solid RBI triple into the gap. However, it's nowhere near enough to counter the Grand Slam they gave up to Sony in the first inning after loading the bases with errors and walks.

I own all of the consoles and (take it with a grain of salt because I preferred the 360, too) I can't figure out what else Xbox can do to win our love. The Xbox One pretty much dominates my home console time these days. People have voted with their wallets and the chose the other "one". I bet if more people gave it a try, they'd love it.

I don't think they can do anything more.  Some people just don't like Microsoft and will never join the darkside.

Like I said after removing kinect they had to improve their OS. But do you think "faster OS" sells a console?

DRM, Price, apps behind paywall, free games, BC, remote control, those are all the things that changes from Xbox One launch that you can count as argument to sell a console.

And I also say that right now they are the one doing real BC.

Xbox One has changed a lot but most of those changes are to look more like their competitor.

I think Microsoft has offered more for their current owners than Sony did for theirs in 2015. Not just on releasing new games, but with the OS, BC, and simply listening to their fans. 2016 is shaping up to be a great year for both.

They both have been skipping around the year in terms of exclusives. I fell both have done well in the exclusive category.

My god, this looks like something a random user of a video game website could write in 10 minutes... These so called "journalists" are worse and worse and the bad thing is that people listen to them.

I love my Xbox One but the launch was horrible.

Sony has an amazing library of games and great hardware, there is no discounting that. Unfortunately I barely have time to spend split between my Xbox One, PC, and Wii U libraries. Adding a PS4 (regardless of all the great games) just isn't in the cards right now.

The turning point has been when Spencer took over. If he had handled the Xbox One from the start things might be different, but we will never know.

The article has some good points, but as others have stated, I wouldn't bring up the competition in an article about the Xbox One, and vice versa for the article regarding the state of the PS4.

this author is biased as f*** lmao.

Okay, there is far more than that and a lot more recent things as most of those happened in the first couple months.  A lot of features have been added and if you don't want to read the changelog to see what I mean then its pointless replying to you.
