I agree that the Xbox One has had a good year. They've done a lot of things right. Unfortunately for Microsoft, though, a lot of those things are relatively minor considerations for most people when buying a new console. Digital backwards compatibility and $150 add-on controllers are not going to swing many consumers. Halo, their 'killer app', seems like a good game but not the game-changing IP it was in the past. Tomb Raider probably shares a lot of its fan base with Uncharted but that's a match-up it's going to lose in terms of overall consumer interest.

If I had to turn this into a baseball analogy--and I do have to turn this into a baseball analogy--then I'd say that Microsoft hit a solid RBI triple into the gap. However, it's nowhere near enough to counter the Grand Slam they gave up to Sony in the first inning after loading the bases with errors and walks.
