PS4 in every country number 1 now. in all countrys in the world. XD

Well.... not in South America.

Which countries specifically? I live there and hardly know people with an xbox one

Brazil and Mexico I believe.

Bear in mind this is counting official sales in the country and not imports.

Brazil changed to official PS4 land once they started manufactoring systems in Brazil. This reduced costs (tech tax) significantly which were the reasons why PS4 was basically only sold through unofficial channels. I think the grey market is still better though, as the deal with Flextronics seems to be taking more work than anticipated. The PS4 costing double the Xbox One because of the tax laws through official channels made the official channel metric worthless.

There are other ways to shaft the consumer. Thinking Sony is above that is ludicrous...

I agree with him. Your concern seems largely unfounded. The last time a company (or companies) became complacent, they paid for it. On the flip side, the last time things were "one sided", the dominating system went on to be regarded as one of the best (even THE best, for many) systems to ever exist.

Make no mistake, I GET your concern. But the last time Sony dominated like this, we were flooded with games. I have no problem seeing that happen again.

Back then we didn't really have much to be concerned.

Rootkits, by the way...

I still don't see any reason to be concerned. In fact, because of the age of information, I'm even less concerned.

With all the digital stuff, now you should be more concerned, though I guess social media allows for more consumer power to do away with changes we don't like.

What monopoly? PS consoles dominated for two gens and there was no issue. There were a lot of games and people enjoyed them. Now, there's more ways to play games than ever. Even Phil Spencer said they're going in on another console. Playstation doesn't have the market all to itself. There's really no need to be upset.

I am not saying there was one. I said I am worried that this might become too one sided... or did you forgot what happened the last time a game company became complacent?

Yes MS with the 360 on the latter half of the gen and then with the XOne. They didn't have a monopoly though, they even weren't market leaders.

So what's your point?

They? No? The X360 was and it made MS complacent and that led to the XONE's demise...

Nintendo made weak hardware since they thought power mattered little...

I can see Sony falling off the same train even if you don't believe it...

With the huge amount of games coming out next year, and still some sony dev not announcing there game yet thia gen is going to be awesome!!!!

Its already better than last gen in my book.

It is indeed. Unless you refer to portable... it's been a nightmare there ever since the GBA days...

So The Greatest Lineup in Xbox History leads to a 65k increase in 2nd biggest month of of the year compared to that of last year? Lol, wow. This month sure was interesting.

An idiot though releasing RoTTR on the same day as F4 was a good idea...

Do we have numbers for that? Also, Mexico is North America as well.

I know XONE consoles are made in Brazil, which means no obnoxious import quotas, but so far, the only one I have for the PS4 is this one...

If so, Sony should outsource their China production to Brazil... same price and better builds that match the JP ones...

Aren't you forgetting Halo 5, their biggest franchise and Forza Motorsport 6? Especially Halo 5.

Im surprised X1 is still selling so good.

Install base of 110-120m+ in US last gen are not all going to buy PS4. Even subtracting Wii that leaves 65-75 of which PS4 wants 40m+.

I don't think there's an install base of 110-120m in the US.

You have a population of ~300m

Subtract young children (the parents would be the install base even if they bought say a WiiU or whatever for them for their Xth birthday)

Subtract prisoners and institutionalized individuals

Subtract homeless and severely mentally challenged

Subtract most of the ludicrously poor

Subtract the vast majority of people over age ~50

And that leaves a *potential* range of people that could be in the market for a video game console and/or dedicated handheld. But in my experience, it's actually fairly rare as the gen ages on for people that have any legimate interest in the hobby at all NOT to get a 2nd or even 3rd device over the course of a gen. This is particularly true in a household with multiple kids. Take last gen, say they started out grabbing a Wii in 2007, when their kids are in middle school. It's pretty likely that those kids got a PS3 and/or a 360 by 2010/2011 at the latest (provided their family could afford such, or they saved at a job).

Anyway, I'm not trying to be reductive or critical, but I just doubt that the numbers support 110-120M install base of 'exclusive' sales base. IOW, over the course of a gen the number of individuals and families that buy multiple devices grows a fair amount these days due to low costs over time, old units dying and needing to be replaced, or for a variety of other reasons ranging from the mundane to the extreme.

Hardly matters, I already subtracted the Wii which is completely ludicrous. As people get older, 100% of them do not quit gaming. As 100m Wii owners get older some of them will get an Xbox One or PS4. As the kinect audience in 2011 gets older some of them will get the Xbox One and PS4. If only 80m is retained that still leaves ~55m owners to buy, split between XB1 and PS4.

Yeah. Based on Nielsen reports, there is likely significant overlap of ownership between the several consoles. In other words, there were a lot of multi-console homes. While there were 110 million seventh-gen consoles sold in the U.S. as of 2014, the actual number of console-owning households was certainly a lot lower. Assuming an average of 1.5 consoles per console-owning household, you're talking about 73.3 million console-owning households. If the average was 2 systems, you're talking only 55 million console-owning households. 60-80 million seems a likely range for the number of households in America that own at least one seventh-gen console.

According to the Entertainment Software Association there are more than 63 million households in the U.S. with at least 1 dedicated video game console (Handheld or Static). There are an average of two gamers in each 'game-playing' U.S. household.

The install base of 7th generation video game devices in the US for Static and Handheld consoles stands at over 187 million. The 8th generation of video game devices has an install base of around 44 million so far. This generation is set to see a decline mainly due to the lack of demand for dedicated handheld gaming devices.

So are you guys saying that sony now produce the Ps4 in Brazil for the Brazilians but it still costs double the x1?

Microsoft have been manufacturing Xbox One's in Brazil since launch whilst Sony have not.

Sony recently started producing consoles in Brazil and I believe they started shipping to stores around the end of October this year. Perhaps someone in Brazil can confirm that but I'm fairly confident it was around that time.

The price has recently come down in Brazil over the last two months. However the Xbox One can still be found for slightly cheaper through official retailers.

The grey market is still probably a better route but the pricing situation is much better than it was at launch and will continue improving.

I though console gaming was dying.

How does that have any bearing on what I posted?

I think it's because the XONE is manufactured ONLY in Brazil, whereas the PS4 has three manufacturers (Sony itself in Japan, Foxconn in China and Anatel in Brazil) but I really think they should end their PRC production and use Brazil to produce the bulk of their consoles, it's as cheap and the quality is higher.

Nonsense. That'd be portable gaming...
