The PS3 went from $599.99 down to $399.99 from 2006 to 2008. 

The PS3 starting price was $499.99 at launch. The 60gb model was $599.99

How can I shift a goal post when I clearly established I was talking about starting price? It's not my fault you didn't read my comment properly.

There are probably lots of consoles that had a high end SKU available and 2 years later a low end SKU $200 less. 

Yeah, like the PS3. And the Xbox One.

And technically, you could get a Dreamcast for $0 less than two years after launch.

I'm aware which is why I was asking about starting points ie the lowest SKU at launch and lowest SKU 2 years later.

But thanks forgot about the Dreamcast.

The Saturn dropped $200 bucks as well. And this lowest SKU thing is ridiculous because no one wanted that 20GB PS3. lol

The Saturn imho was the single largest factor that sunk Sega. Launching at the price that it did was completely insane, the architecture was too convoluted, and then they failed to even localize a huge % of the high quality content being produced in Japan. The 32X and Sega CD were damaging, but the Saturn was a body blow.

It was so bad that the Dreamcast, by all accounts both a technically excellent product AND priced great, launched to a gaming public that by then had grown accustomed to PS1's staying power as well as with a bad taste from the Saturn being a short lived ignominious disaster in the US.

This is a good move from Microsoft.

Price parity with the PlayStation 4 will allow the the Xbox One to continue driving sales during the holiday in the U.S. which is a very important time of year for Microsoft.
