I don't think he's being radical tho. He's probably just saying that he believes Disney chose a black actor to appeal to wider audiences.
Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

You really never imagined that at least one member of these forums cared about artistic integrity? Because that's all my beef is about. When you fuck with something as epic as Star Wars by conducting market research and then altering it's entire universe based off of said research... I'm going to have an issue with it.

Exactly. That and women. It's pretty common knowledge that Star Wars suffers in the african-american and female demographics. The fact that Disney actually went so far as to influence/alter the movie in order to expand it's reach financially sickens me.
| AbbathTheGrim said: After Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said George Lucas had seen the upcoming Star Wars film and that he had "liked it", Vulture went to Kennedy Center Honors in Washington on Sunday to ask the man himself who was to be honored for his lifetime achievements in arts and culture. When asked if it was true that he had seen the film already, Lucas confirmed he had and went on to say what he thought of the movie: “I think the fans are going to love it,” he said. “It’s very much the kind of movie they’ve been looking for.” http://www.vulture.com/2015/12/george-lucas-delivers-a-verdict-on-force-awakens.html# So there you have it. I know all of you respect George a lot and that some of you were on the fence of whether to watch the movie or not since it didn't have him helming the whole thing, so now you can rest assured George thinks you'll like it. |
I'm definitely part of the first group, but not part of the second group. I am more inclined to see the movie with George not having his hands all over it. But what fan of Sci-fi movies can't be eternally grateful for what George brought to life back in 1977?

But what is it about the movie that lacks in artistic integrity regarding casting female and black actors as principle cast? Is there some inherent requirement for the Star Wars universe to always have white males as the lead protagonist? You will have to expalin your purely artistic beef with these castings in order for you to not simply appear to be both racist and misogynist. Why is it so far off canon that it kills the franchise for you?

While I agree to an extent... It's a movie at the end of the day. A movie with a purpose. To make money.
If you're a star was fan and you're not seeing the movie because of those reasons, you're just restricting yourself from enjoyment. They're going to make millions billions without you anyway.
If he likes its a hint that fans are gonna hate it! :D
I must say though "i liked it" and " i think fans will like it" is sounding to me like he himself didn't find it that great. An excited reaction would be "it was awesome" not "i liked it".
Seriously though... i'm worried this movie will try to pander to certain audiences and lose the soul of what is a star wars movie. We shall see.

Don't make it sound like he is alone in this. Many people share the same opinion and are worried. Will the movie make alot of money? Of course it will! But will it damage the brand and make less in the long term if this movie is a cop-out? Most definitly!
