Forums - Gaming - I want to buy a Wii / PS3 / 360 in 2016.

So last gen is well and truly over.  I still use my ps3 bought in early 2007, and I'm currently clearing out the back log of titles bought on sale and free with ps plus.  By next summer it will be cleared.

My wii from 2008 is still plugged in and still works.

I sold my 360 a few years ago.

But I want all 3 systems as a legacy console.  so if I want to play their games in 5/10/20 years I can.  They will still be sold next year so now is the time to buy rather than a decade from now when they're hard to get and expensive.

And if I get them next year they won't be gamed on much because I'll have no backlog and I'll be on my ps4/vita.  So this means they should last a long time if not forever.  They will be good builds because the manufacturers have sorted out all the early faults by now.

So I ask.  Next year what am I looking at.

Same question applies to a new wii / ps3 / 360.

What price should I pay for each?

Is there a particular model I should look into getting?

And will either of them be likely to get another price cut?

Finally,  does anyone else here plan on buying a new last gen console for similar reasons?

Unless you're looking to play gamecube games, I would not worry so much a about the Wii considering the Wii U is backwards compatible.

Just wait for a nice deal, there is no rush. Prices won't go up for years.

If you dont mind buying pre-owned - you could banked on Gamestop's buy 1 get 1 free or was it buy 2 get 1 free where it also affected consoles too - not just games.

Think its over now though - not sure if they'll have a deal like that again ;o

That's the problem.  I already have those consoles pre owned except the 360. I want to buy them new because they'll have no miles on the clock,  will be the latest build and will last a very long time considering I'll not use them much.

The 360 now supports external HDD up to 2TB so you can get one without a internal HDD. As for price cuts on PS3 and 360 they both will probably get one more price cut just shortly before they will be discontinued.

Just don't get the Wii Mini. I don't know if you play online games or if any developer still supports Wii Online servers, but even if they did the Wii Mini doesn't get internet connection or Gamecube Backwards Compaitbility. If you want to modify a PS3 get a phat 3.55 if not go as slim as you can go and the "Super Slim" is quite good. Xbox 360, I still have my old one from release. Don't know if they made a slim model of that or not. You really can't go wrong right now.

OK I'll stay well clear of the mini.I also heard people saying stay away from the ps3 super slim.  Is this true?

I'm not so sure that will ever happen. All 3 sold 85+ million, so there will never be a shortage of them to find. And as such, they'll never really be expensive because they won't be rare. PS1s aren't even that expensive, and obviously very easy to find. So I wouldn't worry about buying them right away. They'll always be available.

I would consider buying them at Gamestop with warranties.

I bought ANOTHER PS3 at Gamestop when they were on sale for $99, works great.

I ordered a couple 360s from eBay. You can find them for about $80 - $100 without a HDD. You don't need the HDD unless you want to play OG Xbox games or a few games that require a HDD. The games that require an internal HDD are mostly games you can find on X1 and/or PS4.

I actually bought another Wii at a Goodwill for $20. The controls don't stay synced sometimes, but worth the price.

Were those consoles you bought refurbished?  Because those prices seem very low.
