Forums - Gaming Discussion - Final Fantasy VII Remake is episodic

Episodic and real-time Kingdom Hearts combat; no thank you, not for me.

some interesting tibits from some articles

''Final Fantasy VII Remake isn’t the only Square Enix property making use of Unreal Engine 4. Both Kingdom Hearts III and Dragon Quest XI are also being made using Epic’s middleware. The Remake itself is set to be a massive project, with each entry will have its own unique story. As a gaming experience, each entry will have the volume of content equal to a full-sized game.

ok that part ''each entry will have its own unique story'' is worries me. How can every entry(episode) have its own unique story but tell the story of FF7 thats all ready known? its not making sense to me

Same, that's why I wanted to understand more.  Some of what Carl said makes sense (the 3 individual discs representing 3 parts of the story), but also, they could go in depth into other facets of the story.  Such as delving into the details of what happened to Red XIII's father.  Still need more info though, because it's still kinda vague and up to interpretation.

ya they need to stop being so vague and just tell us what it really means so speculation can end D:

Look at how much prominence the first act of FF7 had in the trailer. They didn't show anything beyond Midgar. Maybe they will show stuff later on, but perhaps this is a sign of what we'll get in the first episode.

Seems like they are going to beef up stuff by adding content, dialogue, character exposure (maybe a deeper look at the guys from AVALANCHE).

In other words, what previously took little time to complete will take more time now with content.

Maybe.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Going by the (somewhat reassuring) latest interview, tt's probably going to be something like:

Episode One - Only Midgar, but massively expanded - Mid 2017
Episode Two - All the way to a certain death - Mid 2018
Episode Three - Until the ending - Mid 2019

All of them lasting 30-40 hours , priced at $60.

Midgar is an easy choice for taking most of the extra content. It's easily the most iconic part of the game and went by too quickly on the original release. Vincent will probably be expanded on too.

Obvious candidates for the axe: Red XIII dressing like a human and the Fort Condor minigame.

Its ridiculous to see how many people are really ok with this.

I hope they are not too greedy ... I would accept 3 episodes for this great game, perhaps 4 with a massive addition of extra moments, but 5 or more would be a scam ...
I sincerely want the success of this project, since it could possibly generate Remakes for big games such as Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI (in my humble opinion, the 2 best rpgs ever made).

Translation; it won't be very good for Final Fantasy VII fans. At least, that's what I get out of it.

I was discussing this with the other VGChartz staff a few days ago, how would the world map even work in an episodic FF7? :S
