I said it before, MS have to stop trying to emulate Playstation and just embrace what they have been associated with...Shooters, be they first or third person.

You're right. If I were M$, I would wonder what I had to do. Releasing good games, capable hardware, decent prices, cool features, etc just isn't getting the job done. |
I like how you phrase it as capable hardware; not strong or even decent.
MS needs to just go the surface/ steambox route and make multiple models of differing specs. Let the locked specs be damned.

Didn't they try that already last gen with X360's JRPG's? That didn't exactly work out for them. |
And Alan Wake

Yeah, up until this gen, strongest hardware hasn't been much of a deciding factor. It just had to be capable enough to provide a comparable experience to that generation's standard. I like your idea of multiple models but his would that effect online play? (I don't know much about Steambox)

Yes, I'm aware of what timed exclusives are. Alan Wake, however, falls into this category of interesting game that probably would've sold better on other platforms.

yup. These giant sales numbers you're talking about also went on systems that were around for many years and were pushing 150 million units. Not only that, the first month sales numbers while good, are still only a portion of the total sales in the end.

There is just no way that Rise Tomb Raider ends up selling units like the first one. There simply isn't enough units out there and it took years of basement sales before it got to profitability.
And you'd have thought Lara would have the best legs...
