Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo has more software for Wii U

With Nintendo’s next project the NX looming some of us were afraid that the Wii U would be neglected while they worked on the new device. Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima has assured gamers that simply won’t be the case and that they plan to continue providing new software experiences on the Wii U. He claims that the last thing they want to do is abandon Wii U owners while they transition to the NX.

I think Q4 2017/2018 for Wii U successor

Late 2017 sounds like a great date for Wii U successor.

Great idea!

I honestly don't think they will be huge AAA games though. Kimishima said that he thinks the Wii U sell out rate would be 10 Million maybe more when Zelda and Star Fox arrive. I know Kimishima is trying to assure Wii U owners that they're not hurrying into the NX without bringing the install base some decent titles but I don't think they will be anything to the effect of Mario Galaxy 3 or Smash Bros. 5.

I don't buy it. I'm sure when they say they have more projects coming, it will be games like Mario Tennis Ultra Smash and Amiibo Festival.

Nintendo  BS  again.

Third-parties have long abandoned the system , Nintendo is only putting low-budget games on it now in preparation for NX.

I'd bet you we'd have at least one more big title if it wasn't for the fact I'm already in a year long bet.

Nah, that's a year too late. The system is effectively dead in the water, and Amiibos won't bring in cash forever.

I'm glad he says this.... But if the Wii U is being replaced in 2016.... Not much time to continue to support it like he promises.

Once upon a time, several generations ago, Nintendo actually supported legacy systems for several years after its successor released.

I say this solely to emphasize your point that current Nintendo'll drop the Wii U like a hot potato once its successor releases.

Like Xenoblade and Zelda? Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I have my doubts. Nintendo has said things like this before.

Fact is, they didn't really show any true new Wii U games at the November Direct, and they always show new software during that late year Direct. So they keep saying this, but they show no games to back it up. They showed nothing new at E3 either other than Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis, both of which are fairly dubious releases. So if that's their idea of "software support" (outsourced low quality projects) ... they can keep it.

Also if NX is late 2017, then it better be able to compete with the Playstation 5 (FIVE) not the PS4, otherwise they will get Wii U-ed again. Releasing you own PS4 level machine 4 years late is a disaster waiting to happen.

Hopefully that is the case...

but the Wii U should get some hit titles rather than some spinoff budget games
