Forums - PC - I want to build a expensive PC

My rig:

i7 5960X@4.5

GTX980ti classified tri SLI@ 1515

That rig costed me around $4000 and can play all games at 4k 60fps with smaa at default settings , many games I can even play at 5k 60fps with smaa.

5960x is overkill for gaming though, an  i7 6700k would be a much better choice if you are only gonna use that PC for gaming.

Edit:just to make sure you just want a PC that can shit on any game?, or you actually want to spend 7 Gs on a PC?

If that's the case just get 4 Titan x and you would be more than half way there.

Just make yourself a favor: get a single 980Ti card now to play at 4K and good framerates at med-high settings and in six months or so get Nvidia's new top end cards.

Going past dual SLI/X-fire isn't worth it (in my opinion).

Please excuse my bad English.

Easy little question for you before getting started in any way with suggesting you spend 2k+ on parts which will arrive in seperate boxes for you, but what level of experience or knowledge have you with building a PC or putting together any sensitive components before?

While it is true that you can save a lot of money doing a build yourself, you can also lose any money you spend doing it this way if you end up damaging the parts as you try to put them together, or even if you're not great with installing software you could do a botch job and end up not getting the most out of the hardware you buy based on some software mistakes.

If you've zero exp with hardware innards of a PC and zero experience of software installation on a PC, then you should stay away from building, and just buy a pre built "Gaming" PC really, while it might have a slightly bigger price tag on it, there is no saves to be had if you end up with $2,000 worth of parts you damage/can't put together.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Unless you're doing some dev work, you have no need to build a $6-$8,000 PC. Now, on the other hand, it's your money and you're entitled to spend it how you see fit.

Take that from a person who has a $5,500 machine!

I have no idea why you guys spend so much to play video games in the FIRST place lol. I could buy a used car for that AND a PS4, with a boat load of games.

I think you should wait when 4k becomes standard. What is point in spending so much for upscaling 2k content to 4k and by the time 4k era starts your tech will be obsolete.

Just for the fun of it, I threw together basically the most expensive parts I could possibly find, totally ignoring if they are worth it or not. Prices are in € because I'm from germany, sorry about that. But they shouldn't be much different from US$, especially since taxes are included:

CPU: Intel Core i7-5960X € 1.229
MB: MSI X99A Godlike Gaming  € 559
RAM: Corsair 128 GB DDR4-2666 Octa-Kit € 1.379
SSD: Samsung MZ-75E2T0B (2TB)  € 704
GPU: 2x EVGA GeForce Titan X Hydro Cooper € 2.798
PSU: be quiet! Dark Power Pro P11 1000W  € 244,90
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 € 89,90
Case: Lian Li PC-A76X Big Tower  € 209,90
Optical Drive: LG BH16NS40 Blu-Ray € 69,90
Monitor: Philips 288P6LJEB/00 (4K)  € 424
OS: Windows 10 Home     € 104,90
Overall:  € 7.812,50

That build is ridiculous in every way imaginable. You will never need the power of the CPU. A 6700K isn't that much slower, but very much cheaper! You will also not need two Titan GPUs. Two GTX 980 would be perfectly fine, but yeah, if I would have chosen parts that would make actually sense, I wouldn't come near your price range. The monitor is a little less expensive, since you mentioned "it doesn't need to be made out of gold". So I picked something cheaper there. But you can also spend more than 2.000 € on a monitor if you really want to, which will bring you up to 5K with insane image quality.

I wouldn't recommend such a PC for anyone, frankly. But if your only goal is to build a ridiculously expensive PC and you don't care about the money, go for it and have fun!

Well, the actual value of a dollar to a person is relative to how much he has.

He uses his PC for work too, and he needs all the power he can get and more.

It's beastiful!

Such a waste. Sooooooo many better things to spend money on. So many better things.

If you really want to waste so much of someone else's money, make sure you actually develop a good expensive taste instead of spending that money on just one thing. If it just HAS to be computer related, I would spend at least two thirds of that on things around the PC tower.

Which means, this monitor:

+ a nice trackball, a nice desk, a nice rug for under the desk and chair, a great pair of headphones, a Wacom pen tablet perhaps, a MIDI keyboard, a GOG account, and some productivity software.

When getting a PC, get a prebuilt, and make sure it's very very quiet when idling and as quiet as possible under load.
