Sure... just like the PS3 fell off a cliff after its abysmal start last gen and getting trounced in sales by the Wii and 360 early on... oh wait.

The days of a single console dominating a gaming generation are long over. Those wishing for a repeat of the 6th gen where PlayStation gets all the big 3rd party releases all to themselves while Nintendo and M$ are left in the dust to duke it out over scraps for a distant 2nd are in for a rude awakening. Sony might be running away on their home turf in Europe and Japan, but despite the terrible pre-launch PR and $100 higher price point, the sales gap between the X1 and the PS4 in North America is less than a million. As long as the X1 keeps pace with the PS4 in its strongest region, it won't be going near any cliffs anytime soon.

So having a marketshare over 50% isn't dominating?

Dominating is selling nearly 158m consoles Vs 25m and 22m respectively for the competition over the course of one generation and having the majority of AAA 3rd party games exclusive to your console, as was the case for the PS2 during the 6th gen.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Outselling your two competitors COMBINED is not dominating.... No matter how you slice it.

:P

In 2007 and 2008 the Wii outsold the PS3 and 360 COMBINED each year, yet at no point did anybody say it was completely dominating the PS3 and 360 because they were both selling strongly during those years as well, and they both ended up finishing the generation less than 15m units behind the Wii worldwide despite the Wii outselling them 2:1 combined early on when all was said and done.

That is not absolute. I for one did consider the Wii to be dominating in those years. DId the 360 and PS3 make a big comeback? Yes, absolutely. But I do not foresee the X1(the Wii U has absolutely zero chance) selling more than half the PS4 in its lifetime. I would say it will sell about 40% of the PS4s total sales considering the PS4 has been beating it consisently worldwide. The gap is only growing larger.

Yes and we will see the xbox 2 in 2017

Something that doesn't really fit the spectrum of what you're likely to suggest to me, I already get what I want on my platform of preference, PS4 nor X1 provide me with anything to rush out and buy a console for, those times are long gone for me.

So you wouldnt like to play games Like The Last of US nope, Uncharted 4 hell no, Bloodborne not at all, Disaster Report 4 no, Grabity Rush 2 have to check it out first, but for one single game? Surely not!? The PS4 has quite more exclsuives than you think espacially better running versions of crossgen games and remasters.

PS4 has quite some exclusives, I don't think anyone really is gonna denying that. However, none of them fits my kind of games. I prefer complex strategy games (4X, Grand Strategy, Turn-based Wargames), classic RPGs with a hero party and stat-based combat (meaning no action-RPGs), fun racers (but no racing sims), Visual Novels and generally more fun or arcadey stuff. Aka basically all the stuff NOT being made by AAA companies and not being featured on Playstation or Xbox since 2 genrations ago

Shouldn't it be Xbox 4? Or maybe Xbox one 2. Don't know. That's Confusing. But I bet that X4 can beat the crap out of PS4.

if noone considered that domination why do I have such an ingrained hatred for the, according to your statement, nonexistent term "nintendomination".

...

The Xbox One is out selling Xbox 360 and the consoles is Microsoft more profitable and successful to date. I would hardly call that slumping or about to go over a cliff. The Xbox One install base by the end of this Holiday season will be just around 19 million and it would be foolish for third party to ignore the Xbox one owners.

PS4 being market leading consoles means that game will be develop for PS4 and ported to Xbox One. But, that's hardly worth nothing since due to PS4 slightly stronger hardware they've been getting better version of most games. Sony not about to pay for exclusive deals to keep all future third party off the Xbox One and publisher make massive profits on the Xbox one ports. Deals like Street Fighter V will happen but you'll see Microsoft did the same exclusive with Capcom to secure Dead Rising 3.

But, you can expect Microsoft to publish more key exclusives like Quantum Break, Crackdown 3 & Scalebound.

The strength of the XBone in the USA is enough to ensure that the console has a bright future and a decent amount of multiplats will come for it..... However the PS4 outsells it every week and it stands to reason that eventually there will be some games that aren't ported onto it, especially games that appeal to the Japanese market.
I know they were only just released but the current sales figures for Halo 5 and Rise of the Tomb Raider would be enough to give Phil Spencer nightmares.
If PS4 attains a massive chunk of market share devs may make games especially for the spec of PS4 and XBone may get some crappy ports that highlight the deficiency of the system and that would spell trouble for Microsoft. Also, don't underestimate the curveball that is NX.

The PS4 already sees loads of Japanese games that developers don't bother to port to Xbox One because they know they won't sell. And I don't think it has anything to do with PS4 having a larger userbase, I think it's just the demographic of that userbase. The PS3 and 360 were virtually neck and neck in userbase and the PS3 still saw loads of Japanese games the 360 did not see.

I can't see your typical 3rd party publisher ever ignoring the Xbone or giving it a shit port because that's still a big chunk of sales that is only going to get bigger as the userbase grows.

I think we've seen signs of the userbase affecting this even more though.

For example, both PS3 and 360 got Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (Fighting game from Arcsys), while only PS3/PS4 got Guilty Gear Xrd (Fighting game from the same company). While on the subject of fighting games, King of Fighters 14 was announced to be a PS4 exclusive, while King of Fighters 13 was on both PS3 and 360. Tekken 7 has only been announced for PS4 so far, but no confirmation about it being an exclusive.
On the Rpg side, there's Star Ocean 5, only on PS3/PS4, while Star Ocean 4 was on both PS3/360. NieR was on both 360 and PS3, but the new one is PS4 only.
And while Shenmue 2 was on Xbox, Shenmue 3 is only on PS4 (and PC). The Dead or Alive series has been strong on Xbox, and the Dead or Alive Extreme games have actually only been on Xbox. But now Dead or Alive 3 Extreme is only on PS4. Etc.

Well, the fighting games had better performance on the X360, so there's that... Star Ocean 4 was meant to be a test to see if it could sell outside the PS brand (I think it did, but they didn't think it was good enough to bother turning it into a multiplatform game) and I am pretty sure that the new NiER has a lot to do with Sony, like with SFV...

DOA Extreme 3 will not be released on the West, which is were the XONE's userbase is based, so it makes sense it won't come to the XONE...

Tekken is the one that worries me. Shenmue's creator already said that he is not sure whether to port to the XONE or not, but Tekken has been multiplat for a while now, so Tekken 7 not appearing on the XONE would be a big red flag...

Good point about DOA Extreme 3. I forgot to consider that an Asia only release means that it would have to rely on the extremely low XB1 asian install base, so that should be the reason.

As for Tekken 7, it doesn't seem like a game that would want to avoid an Xbox release. I'd be surprised if it didn't get announced for XB1 as well. But if it doesn't then I'd assume Sony had a hand in that with some sort of deal. Not so sure about Nier though, since it's an action rpg, and Square has announced a bunch of PS4 only rpgs in the past year. I guess the action element might have been popular enough to do well on XB1, but I'll have to see how the battle system works first, and how they promote the game.

You might also argue that NiER is niche, since it sold under 1M units across both consoles...
