Forums - Sales - Rise of Tomb Raider XBox1 = sales dud of the year?

I think the buyout was simply to keep this off of PS4 while Halo 5 released. The "Greatest lineup in Xbox history" is one of the worst ideas I've ever heard. It killed the sales of many games (Halo 5, Fallout 4, ROTR). Why release so many AAA titles in suck rapid succession? It did absolutely NOTHING for Xbox One.

You clearly have no clue! Don't let Sony amazing success cloud your view on what the competition has been able to achieve. While the Xbox One hasn't reach the same success has Sony's PS4... they have still manage to deliver on the company fastest selling, most profitable console in Xbox history and you can't denied how great their game lineup has been.

Seem like every one on this thread forgot about Uncharted 4 and Sony failure to deliver on their promise. The reason Rise of Tomb Raider is time exclusive to Xbox one was because Uncharted 4 supposed release in Holiday 2015.

So you're telling me a great game like ROTR having paltry sales has nothing to do with it being released the same time as Fallout 4? Just answer that simple question. And where in my OP did I even mention Sony? You quickly bounced to MS defense mode as if I bashed the decision by praising Sony.

If Sony were to ever release Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, and ROTR at the same time they'd all hurt each other's sales. Thus this would be a bad decision all the way around. Don't get so angry and defensive over things you have no control over. Sheesh!

Finally, don't act as if ROTR were selling gangbusters Xbox fans wouldn't be in threads talking about how amazing the game is and how Sony fans have to wait another year to play it. They were all doing that prior to its release. Fanboyism works both ways. Sometimes you're the victor... Sometimes you're the victim. Feel free to categorize yourself in this one.

PC GAMING: BEST GAMES. WORST CONTROLS

A mouse & keyboard are made for sending email and typing internet badassery. Not for playing video games!!!

Everything Xbox One seems to be a dud. I own all three consoles and I like all three but they just can't catch a break. Titanfall, Halo 4, Tomb Raider... it just goes to show that no matter what kind of content you have, you can't compete against the collective. Wii-U suffers from the same problem. How many great games are on Wii-U? Tons. How many are selling at huge volumes? None.

Every generation there's one console which for various reasons gets coined "hip" to own and that console almost always wins by default. There's almost nothing Microsoft and Nintendo can do at this point other than to release good games and please their fan bases.

if the hadnt had such crap launches and reveals they would have been giving PS4 a much better fight.

I think Sony just hired the right people this time around. Someone, or a group of REALLY intune people took the pulse of the industry and acurately figured out exactly what gamers would want in the year 2013. Compare that to Nintendo and Microsoft. Both of their systems (as of right now), are full of great games. Both of them are worthy to own (my opinion), but neither of them had the right message at launch. One of them (Wii-U) tried to push the casual, new controller input Wii route again, even though it had obviously collapsed a few years prior. The other (Microsoft) tried to push the Xbox One as some multimedia machine that could manage your TV viewing and also, prevent you from playing used games. Both of their stratigies were absolutely FAIL. Sony didn't have that issue because again, someone they hired was really, REALLY great at finding out what the industry wanted circa 2013. It worked.

I think the lesson to take away from this generation is... do your market research better. Stop trying to move consumers into areas that you want them to be in and start moving into areas that they ARE in.

Wait... are you agreeing with me on Sony getting a free pass then? ^^

Did I say no? But evil is different. Sony is just showing how much they'll save up time and money and make better progress if they concentrate on their platform than two and split their development cycles.

Sometimes ideas matter depending on circumstances. And those circumstances in Japan don't fit with some platforms. With Sony being the number one current gen console, they couldn't just be made tier two citizens. When you're the minority, you adapt if exclusives are coming to the better selling console. You buy that said console or just upgrade your PC. Taking PS4 userbase for granted because they think they could just sell those late ports to us anyway are in need of a constant dose of reality. Lol  New games are coming. Do you think we're always here for late ports?

Aww... Evil seems to have a ring to it. Kinda like these guys:

I dont think they hired anyone, IMHO i think they just used basic common sense

Meh. Crappy sales for a TR game. I just know that everything at Crystal Dynamics went wrong since the reboob. That whiny "plotless" nun isn't Lara, she is an impostor. And at least on the first game there wasn't much tomb riding either. Sure she isn't selling well. Too bad because they really are good looking games.

And this from one who bought all previous games. Now to do even more damage Eidos just needs to make a Soul Reaver reboot with Raziel looking like Justin Bieber.

That doesn't make any sense because the PS3 launch was absolutely void of logic.

that was then, Sony learned. I hope MS and Ninty do. (MS seems to have learned)

Yeah but the wiiu is clearly too overpriced what is it now 300€? nintendo should just have dropped that gamepad updated their console and games to work without. They could still changed the course, espacially since PowerPC/x86 crossgen was and is still a thing now for multiplats. The PS4 has the most games, most variety, is the most powerfull console, you can record footage for 15 minutes and so forth and it costs 350€. Can you really blame the average consumer choosing the ps4 right now?

Makes The Order's first week sales look like GTAV.

They got scared of having to deal with Uncharted on PS4 and started running on the opposite direction, just to find an abyss called Fallout 4 that sucked %90 of the XB1 sales.

Call me crazy, but I believe Tomb Raider could have sold better on the WiiU.
