Turkish fighter jets shot down a Russian warplane near the Syrian border on Tuesday after repeated warnings over air space violations, but Moscow said it could prove the jet had not left Syrian air space.

A U.S. military spokesman confirmed that Turkey warned the Russian pilots repeatedly before shoot down, but they did not respond, Reuters news agency reported.

“We were able to hear everything that was going on, these (communications) were on open channels,” military spokesman Colonel Steve Warren said.

Asked if he could confirm reports 10 warnings were issued by Turkish pilots without response, Warren said: “I can confirm that, yes.” He added it was not immediately clear on which side of the Turkish-Syrian border the Russian jet had been flying.

Maybe Russia will stop flying their military planes over other countries now without permission. The UK, Scotland, Netherlands, USA and many more may not shoot you down but turkey sure as hell will.

Russia are winning over moral support of the western world by claiming they are bombing ISIS but they are not. They are bombing the Rebels in Syria fighting the government.

ISIS control the West. What are they doing flying over the east attacking rebel areas lived in by the Turkmen race. This pissed off turkey to begin with, but the last straw was flying over turkey itself and not listening to the 10 warnings. They were flexing their muscles to Turkey.

And Putin probably expected and wanted this result. So he can further justify supporting assad who is against turkey.

If you really think it's so black and white then you are wrong.  don't listen to the American media who brainwash the public into thinking it's one side against the other.  The situation is complicated.  Many different players with varying interests.  and they all have different enemies in this.  I advise you research the true situation and you will not have such simple questions.  

And just so you know,  the Russia military is not much more advanced than turkeys.  the only major difference is nukes.  If Russia launched an offensive on turkey it would be crushed.  Turkey has a massive army that's very well armed and trained.  

I'm not saying they're better but Russia is not capable beating them on Turkish soil with their current army and without using nukes. 

According to Dutch media outlet RTL Nieuws (RTL News) a commercial aircraft pilot also heard the warnings. Warnings were given before the aircraft entered Turkish territory and they intensified as it crossed the border. According to the pilot the Turkish F16s flew right over him and never headed to Syrian territory, so he/she is convinced that the Russian Su-24m was shot down above Turkey. The pilot of the commercial aircraft wants to stay anonymous but has been verified by RTL Nieuws to be a commercial airline pilot.
