Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo marketing manager on childish commercials and no XCX advertisement (Latin America)

Those are some pretty basic marketing notions, but they are not wrong.

I believe she is quite right about XCX, if the user base was huge you could get people who don`t play RPGs to to try it out, but as it is, the game is not enough to sell the system to non-rpg fans and rpg fans already know about it.

As far as i know, game commercials are rare here in Brazil, unless we are talking about really big IPs like CoD, FIFA and AC. I remember seeing some more during the PS4/X1 launch, but after some months it went silent again.

Nintendo dosent oficially sell to Brasil anymore.Shops import the games and all, but there isnt a official distributor anymore. But even if there were, Nintendo is somewhat weak In Brasil and Latin America. It wouldnt make much sense to waste much money on commercials for XCX in these regions.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

"Xenoblade Chronicles X is an RPG, a game for RPG and Xenoblade fans. We didn’t do anything too big because the audience for the game already know it exists and is already attentive of its release.”

That's just pure laziness of Nintendo (for Latin America).

Nintendo is mainly tageting kids, so it shouldn't come off as surprising, I guess.

They are doing it, so in like 10 years they will look back and feel nostalgia for those Nintendo games, just as we do now, for the Nintendo games years ago, and now we are still Nintendo fans. They want to win over children because they are a huge audience, and they are easily controllable. If i would be Nintendo i would also be targeting kids. It does pay off alot. Not many adults really need gaming consoles because they work alot. Adult gamers are mostly hardcore gamers. but nintendo does want to have a balance between there audiences. and a wider audiences therefor better. But alot of people seem to think negative about the whole targeting kids factor from Nintendo, that we forgot , if it wasnt for Nintendo targeting kids years ago, we wouldnt be playing there games now

This reminds me of the huge amounts of advertising GTA 5 got. I couldn't help but wonder why the game was being advertised on every second bus stop: who the hell doesn't know this thing is coming? R* would post up a video somewhere and you'd get threads made on discussion boards all across the internet.

I'd much rather marketing money go towards a game's development than letting grandma know what to get Billy for the holidays.

I think it would do Nintendo good to deliver more tougue in cheek commercials, like their Robot Chicken Direct sketches, that can appeal to children, but are intelligent enough to appeal to adults too.
Also, I just want to see better, more intruiging marketing from Nintendo in general. Splatoon had that really nice little render with the Inklings splatting around Tokio. It reminded me of that playstation 2 people moutain commercial. I want to see more like that.

Nintendo can keep it's family friendly image and still attract other crowds too imo.

I bet there are some gamers who aren't fans of RPGs and Xenoblade, but wouldn't mind giving XCX a try.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

"Xenoblade Chronicles X is an RPG, a game for RPG and Xenoblade fans. We didn’t do anything too big because the audience for the game already know it exists and is already attentive of its release.”

By that logic. Halo, Battlefront, and COD comericals shouldn't be produced.

These days I saw some commercials for Battlefront, FIFA 16 and PS4, but it was on a movie channel.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Wow, I thought the North American marketing team could be dumb. This guy should be managing no one's marketing.
