Inflation doesn't matter to the consumer. People don't look at a sticker price and go "Well, it's X amount of dollars, but... given inflation bla bla bla." That's not now it works. People assign STICKER PRICES to certain things and don't budge from it.

Game consoles will never sell well if they go beyond a certain price point, inflation or not.

Then how come the PlayStation 3 was still able to sell 80+ million so far?

Because it dropped in price quickly. When the PS3 was $600.00, it was getting murdered.

Imo, Nintendo needs to go back to the whole UNDER $300.00 model of business. They should take a loss on hardware this time in order to gain marketshare and respect and try to recoup through killer software.

A $199.99 price point on a console with at least PS4 power (it's possible that a console like that wouldn't even CAUSE a loss considering the PS4 will be three years old next year) and great games would do very well imo.

I don't think that would be very likely.

Neither do I lol.

I guess it all depends on how Nintendo is going to handle the whole Fusion thing, will it be ONE single unit or two of them? $299 is a pretty safe bet but the question is if it will be able to compete against PS4 and X1, or if Nintendo is aiming for a disruptive device.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Depends on what the NX is really, but $300 sounds pretty reasonable for a console

I was hoping that it would be $200 instead, so that we'd get more bang for our buck, like with the N64 back then.

Hmm, I doubt it would be priced that low, but you have to keep track of inflation because $200 then is not $200 now..

$300 isn't a huge number, if people aren't willing to buy your product at $300, it means most likely it doesn't have great mass appeal to begin with.

Even the Wii, which was $250 at launch, with inflation taken into account, that's a shade over $295 in 2015 dollars.

Never is a rather long time. Standards change with inflation. The New York Times costed a penny a hundred years ago and now it is 250 times more expensive. A few thousand dollars were a reasonable fortune and could buy you a home. Just grab a supermarket leaflet from 10, 15 years ago and see how your own standards changed a little, even if subconsciously.

Or look here - http://www.foxbusiness.com/personal-finance/2011/05/05/10-everyday-grocery-items/

There is absolutely zero evidence whatsoever to corroborate your theory. And in fact, your smug tone makes it rather pleasurable to point out how you post stuff that works only in your imagination.

It will be cheaper than that.

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

First time that I agree on Pachter, NX home console will be $249-299.

There is a possibility if they announce console 299 USD price, it would have the same graphical power with Xbox One or PS4, (just like Wii U with the same class with Xbox 360 and PS3) but if it's hybrid then it will have the same power as Wii U (because it will be to cheap building a tablet that have a capability with PS4) so i think that's my opinion based on current tech we have at the present.

I seriously doubt that the home console will be the same power as Wii U, even if they use the fusion concept.First because that would piss off people even more. After all, its a Wii U level power, so why change the console at all?Second because Nintendo always increased the Console power for the next generation, even if it wasnt a giant step, like the gamecube to the Wii.And third, if they did that, they would be in the same horrible situation they are now with third party. So no, it wont be same power.

The key word here is "Fusion " like tablet device that can be mobile, imagine if you can bring a tablet as powerful as Wii U, people will interested. Trust me, why people not interested with Wii U because they are not mobile (like iPad or Android) . It doesn't matter if powerful or not, what is matter is if the design fit with the casual.

For home console it will be the same power with PS4 or slightly better but it will be difficult to distinguised just like with PS3 and Wii U, or NX will be benefit utilize low power or small factor, but result the same out put with PS4

Im not intrested in a tablet  version of a wii u.

Well Nintendo dont need money from poor  hardcore gamer   Lol. Well seriously,  hardcore gamer is the last concern for them, they dont have a large fanbase anymore like PS and Xbox, most of them are secondary user or people that really have a nostalgic feeling and grew up with Nintendo.  What they need is to atract casual or more of less non dedicated gamer.

Who really knows what they'll do, though.
