Forums - PC Discussion - How To Build A Solid $500 Gaming PC For Fallout 4 And GTA V

SteamOS, problem solved.

But with SteamOS you lose a lot of game performance: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/11/ars-benchmarks-show-significant-performance-hit-for-steamos-gaming/

And the AMD drivers for Linux/SteamOS are even worse. Not to mention the incompatibility to thousands of PC games.

I don't see a proper Windows-alternative for PC gaming in the near future.

No monitor, no OS, no keyboard/mouse/gamepad.

Here's how you build a setup that can play Fallout and GTA for less than $500: PS4 ($350) + GTA5 ($60) + Fallout 4 ($60) = A console with both games ($490). Congrats.

You forgot the price of the tv :/

Nope, I for example only had 5 things when I started living on my own.A mattress, a monitor, my gaming PC, my laptop and my PS3.The setup you mentioned would've been useless for me, since apparently you can't use a console with a monitor, just like you can't use a PC with a TV...

add the OS, keybord and mouse and optical drive ( because how the hell are you gonna install the drivers that will come with your peripherals) and you are already at 750$ US multiply that by 1.3 if you live in the free Canadian lands

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Fact is "gaming" PCs keep getting cheaper and the games especially when steam has sales are already far cheaper.Consoles are the more expensive option nowdays.

Keyboard, mouse, DVD drive, case, monitor (possibly even HDD, RAM, OS CD) can all be re-used from your previous machine.

Seriously guys, you are using arguments that may have been true 20 years ago when people bought their first PC.Move with the times.

I'm not sure why anyone continues to buy AMD CPUs which are just completely outclassed by Intel. Seriously, why waste your money?

If you upgrade your pc don't you think you might want to upgrade your peripherals too? you guys act like those things last for ever or the 10$ version or just as good. please I build a pc this summer and it cost me my first born child, I know the pain

In other words no monitor, no OS, no controller, have to rely on mall-in rebates, have to build the actual thing, $150 more expensive, valid only for the US to get to play games at around 50fps.

Should of known it wouldnt take you long to come in here with the same strawman tactics again..

As you can see The OS and Monitor and Controllers have all been discussed. Plus why would it be stuck to playing games at 50FPS??

And why is it in every PC thread your only defence is always "No OS, No monitor, No Joypad, Batman runs worse, etc etc. just look at his post history and you can clearly see how much he repeats them lines in every post.

Yeah, only took 7 hours for me to come in here. You discussed the OS by mentioning the very limited SteamOS or Linux, which based on tests are much worse than Windows so unless you get a better video card, you need to get a Windows license. The latter cannot be transfered if  you haven't bought Windows at retail before. The home edition of Windows 7 costs $170 in Australia so factor that in.

As for monitor, that wasn't addressed - people just said to use their TV, which we all know will make the display look crap.

As for controller, I haven't seen you address it.

So, add about $400 to that list.

As for 50fps, that's what the benchmark says. Some games drop to 40fps.
