That's weird because playing through 3D World the thought that ran through my head was "How did they pack so many idea into one game?". I know there's a few reskinned levels towards the end but if you take the game as a whole, there's a fuck ton of diversity in 3D World.

What I felt was the biggest improvement in Galaxy 2, was the search for the Green Stars which made you explore the levels looking for them (as opposed to redoing all the levels with Luigi in SMG1).

I just found it boring. Like "Here's Mario... in 3D!" And nothing more. I should replay it, that generally makes me appreciate games more (I once felt Mario 64 was the worst of the 3D marios. After replaying, it's probably my 2nd favorite).
I wouldn't take my arguments too seriously though. My favortie 3D Mario is 3D Land... I don't get me sometimes.

I have been saying this since the game released: Super Mario 3D World is the best 3D Mario title of all time. It has the best music, best level design and by far the most varied gameplay.
Without the nostalgia factor, this would not even be a contest.
I wish I liked it as much as you did. SMG is easily my favorite Nintendo game and I definitely laughed when I saw the thread title. At no point did I ever consider 3D world to be of the same tier or caliber of previous 3D Mario titles. It felt like a filler title and I don't even think it was a very good game. Rol, whatever makes you happy in your catsuit.

Mario Galaxy is not all that meh.
Do agree that 3D World is better.
Quite a fun and interesting opinion, and you make some solid points! I'm eager to get my hands on 3D World when I get a Wii U
