Forums - Microsoft - RUMOR: Halo 5 sold 1.4-1.5 Million in US

If true, it again proves bungie>343. MS needs to get them back if possible because the franchise is a shadow of it's former self.

Noone is saying the numbers are low. It is low for Halo: IE Halo 3 Halo Reach and Halo 4.

People generally overestimate Digital. Especially for a game that sells massive numbers Digital % of 30% would be straight insane.

And honestly u use VGC for your SW, but then discredit them for SW. So the percentages could very well be just as untrue. (unless u cite a different source)

Oh goddammit. And I thought I finally hunted the truth

I think activision owns them

To compare halo odst sold 1.4 in the us fw
reach sold 2.3m
3 sold 2.3,
4 sold 2.4m

So assuming 30% of digital sales on 1.5m, that equal to 1.95m right? that's a huge decline compare to other halo games.

Thats in the US only

I know but outside US isnt much if you consider than it did around 195k in UK including digital (150k * 1.30) and Uk is basically the only relevant country for xb1 after US.  if halo 5 is down compare to other mainline game in US and UK, the same might happen everywhere else.  total sales must be around 2.4 FW and that's being generous considering 30% digital attach rate might be high for it.

The bundle is not included as the number allegedly comes from NPD, so standalone physical copies only.

I made some calculations based on the numbers you gave. Halo 5 might have sold between 2.8 - 3.0 million worldwide. That's still lower than how much 3, Reach, and 4 sold in the US alone.

According to which source?

VGC has all of them at about 2.4m for the first week in the US. (none of them were digitally available at launch)

Halo 3 is obviously the pinnacle of the series in terms of sales. It had an insane first week considering how early it came out in that generation.
I doubt anyone was expecting Halo 5 to beat that when even Reach and 4 couldn't with a much higher userbase. And that brings me to my second point. Was anyone expecting Halo 5 to outsell Reach or 4 in the first week when there is this huge discrepancy in userbase?

Just because Halo 5 isn't close to the monster launch that was Halo 3 doesn't mean that the numbers are low.

NPD numbers. Also, I said Halo 5's worldwide sales are lower than US sales of Halo 3, Reach, and 4. I didn't say they were low.

You forgot that
a) not all of them were released during the same month
September has 5 weeks, October 4 weeks and November 4 weeks.
b) none of them were released on the same day

Halo 3 came out on the 25th Sep. = 12 days
Halo Reach on the 14th Sep. = 19 days
Halo 4 on the 6th Nov. = 24 days
Halo 5 on the 27th Oct. = 5 days

So from what I gathered, Halo 3 did 3.3m in 12 days, Halo Reach 3.3m in 19 days, Halo 4 3.2m(?) in 24 days.

hardly fair to say that a game with 2x the US weekly sales, 4x the US weekly sales and 5x the US weekly sales did more than a game with 5 days of WW sales, especially when that series is so US heavy.

The other sentence was more aimed towards the general audience in this thread.

Well, when we compare it to Halo 3, the best like for like entry in the series, the Halo franchise is definitely in decline. Halo 3 launched the last week of the month, like Halo 5. Both were the first main entry in the franchise for their gen. Both launched on a small user base, the XBO actually beating the 360 by 2M+ in the same time frame. Yet, Halo 5 did 3.3M just in the US, according to NPD. If these numbers are right, I doubt Halo 5 even did 3M WW. Probably closer to 2.5M.

It's definitely not a failure, but it just continues to illustrate how the XBO isn't doing any favors for Xbox franchises.

I don't think it means the series has declined. If halo 5 did 2-5-3 million worldwide with digital and halo 3 did whatever it did(3.5 million?). That's not that big of a difference and considering halo 3 probably had a marketing budget 3-5 times the size of 5's it's not bad at all.

May want to reread my post.  Halo 3 did 3.3M in the US alone, which means it was most likely close to 4M WW (VGC has it estimated at 3.8M), without digital.  If these numbers are right, then Halo 5 probably did ~2.5M WW, with digital.  That is a definite decline.  Hopefully, MS doesn't do to Halo what they did to Forza, and make it a yearly series.  Halo Wars one year, main entry the next.  Cause if they do, it'll decline even more.

Actually it doesn't even matter. It's five days up until the Saturday. That extra Sunday will not make much difference. If it does include the Sunday, which I expect it does, that's considered a full week. So anyway, it you want to say to the end of the month, you're going to hav to stop saying half a week. It's 5 days with all the preorders and Saturday which is probably the day that most business it done.

We don't include Tuesday? I thought you don't count the day you're on when you're counting.

Ok, the fact still remains that IF they mean calendar month, it's only missing 1 day (Sunday) from any other regular week 1 software numbers. Maojority of games release Tuesday and week one is until Sunday. Sunday was Nov 1st so it would miss that day IF it they meant calendar month.

Why do you not include Tuesady launch day anyway?

Just the way you usually count things. Tuesday to Wednesay is 24 hours/1 day so thats one.

I'm not surprised at all with the poor sales for Halo 5. (Poor in relation to other Halo games)

I remember some kid predicted 7-8 million sold for Halo 5 for it's first 2 months. Haha, I told him 2.5-3.2m would be the total and he didn't like that. :P

Ugh, I was sure I put Microsoft, going to ask mods to change it.

I believe digital is more than that. Well it's rumor anyway so it doesn't matter

From a vetted guy... that proved he knows someone with access to actual numbers.

If he couldnt prove that, or someone else on gaf had the "real" numbers and this guy lied or made them up, he would have been banned.

Basically you cant just go "oh its just a rumor" to this.

Basically still a rumor. Correct? I hope MS tells the numbers total with digital. Not worried either way.
