Forums - Gaming - So what's your ideal length for a $60 "triple a" retail game?

The perfect game length

less than 5 hours 2 0.78%

5-10 hours 17 6.64%

10-20 hours 101 39.45%

Over 20 hours? 83 32.42%

Over 9000!! (aka infinite replay) 8 3.13%

Jeez, I don't know. I just want to have fun. 45 17.58%

Total:256

I never noticed but they said Chrono Trigger was super short. I played through it a million times getting different endings because of that short length, though. Most jrpgs only got one play through from me. Sometimes, short can be a blessing.

Well it very depends of gener of game itself, is it a platformer, shooter, sport game, online game, RPG, adventure, horor...I am big Zelda fan, and one very interesting thing, in last 2-3 years i finished Zelda TP, Zelda SS and WW HD, and each game I finished for around 45 hours, so for me around that length would be ideal length for AAA game of that kind.

I don't buy games for $60 any more (last time was for Wii), as I don't see the point in paying so much, when the games aren't even ready at launch and will be milked with DLC later on. My backlog is so massive I can wait a month or two and buy it much cheaper, when the game is patched and actually works.

Also, as I grow older, no longer study and have less time to play, I value shorter games higher than long, drawn out ones. If the game being long is justified, I don't mind that much, but I pretty much stopped playing games that require me to grind. I don't have time to waste on pointless stuff that gives me nothing in return except for a different figure on the screen.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

It all depends on the genre. For an Fps then 8 -10 hours is long enough because the multiplayer is so extensive. For an action adventure like Metroid prime, resident evil, Assassins creed, god of war I think 15 hours is good enough. For the legend of zelda i think 25 - 40 hours is the sweet spot. For open world games like GTA, Fallout, Skyrim, Far cry and JRPG's like Final fantasy, Dragon quest then 50 - 100 hours or more is fine because most of the time is spent travelling from point A to point B or grinding.

I've never paid $60 for a game. I will for Xenoblade though.

I guess it depends on the type of game and the enjoyment that you get out of it. I've paid less than 20 for long games that were really fun.... Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne for example, but that wasn't "AAA...

Ideally, if I'll buy a game for more than $40, its most likely a JRPG, which usually have tons of content. That has spoiled me.

Depends on the game, some games I would say should end in under 10 and others I would say should be 200+

As long as there's a good amount of replay value, I don't care too much about the lenght of a game.

If it was, say 6 hours and then nothing left to do, then it wouldn't be worth my $60. (let alone 60 or 70€)

If I get 10 hours out of it, I'm fine.

You should play Okami, it's around that length.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

While I think the time of a campaign is irrelevant if the game is impactful enough, 10 ~ 20 sounds pretty good. With new, single player focused games, I usually only play an hour at a time to really get the most of the game and I'm not a completionist either.

A game I would pay 60 would have around 20h campaing with 60-100h total playtime
