Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Rumor: Retro Studios’ Next Game is Something they Proposed to Nintendo, maybe New IP

Well, apparently you didn't notice I never said a word about creating an engine, but I did say they weren't creating a game. I don't give a fuck about an engine, you play games, not engines. While you keep talking about them making an engine, I'm talking about them making games, or lack there of.  You basically said what i said, they werent making games. An engjne is not a game. But go ahead, keep talking about engines. And no, my saying 2 years was hyperbolic, was just that, over exaggerated. But, by all means, pat yourself on the back, as a matter of fact, get kermit to do it for you.

I think if Retro was pitching a new game to Nintendo they'd first have to be present a working prototype.  If that new game wasn't in the same vein as Metroid Prime or Donkey Kong Returns (ie FPS/FPA or 2D platformer) creating a new engine could account for some of that missing time.

So all you said was exaggerated (as that was all that post contained). So you were wrong... As an exaggeration isn't correct (and nothing in your post even suggested you were exaggerating or using a hyperbole, you were being serious). And you need a game engine in order to create a game... When you know nothing about game development it's best not to comment on it. Creating a game engine falls under the development process, just like pitching game ideas.

Nope man, creating an engine is not creating a game. Moving the goal posts doesn't make you right. I said they weren't making a game, because as the article says, they were pitching games throughout 2014. Don't fill in the blanks with your bs. This article wasn't about you. It was about this Liam guy. They were making an engine? Great. They weren't making a game.

Unreal engine, when was the last time you played the engine? Oh, yeah, you've played games that used that engine. Games. That use it. Not just engines. I'm done with this fun chat of ours tho. Your reading comprehension is sub par, and I don't want to keep following you in the circles you're taking yourself in.

Goodnight, tell kermit I said hi.

I'm going to quote you here : "Of course they're expensive, they've been pitching ideas for 2 years instead of actually making games. That would cost alot of money to pay an entire studio to pitch ideas."

Let me guess, another hyperbole? Another exaggeration? You literally know nothing about how developing games works. The people making the engine aren't the same as they people pitching the ideas. Yet they're both needed in one studio. But hey, maybe you're right, and that guy that programs stuff was also pitching ideas and creating character designs at the same time. /s I wonder what the janitor's idea was.

To pitch an idea they most likely had to present Nintendo with a prototype of some sorts. But hey, doesn't count either, right? Nope, just pitching ideas for two years doing jack shit otherwise.

No doubt they were busy with something. But even making an engine, doesn't mean they're any closers to making an actual game. Developers have been licensing engines like unreal engine for years, yet the games they're making still take years. That's what I'm saying. Well, I think it's no wonder that they've showed nothing, they really haven't had much time to make the actual game.

Again, talking like an idiot won't make you right the only thing I said was hyperbolic was the 2 years part, but you lack comprehension. I could have said 10 years. Having an engine doesn't mean you're ahead of the game development part. Companies license engines all the time, yet it still takes years to release many of these titles. But, you're right, I'm wrong. It's expensive to pay an entire studio to pitch ideas, and make an engine. There you go kermy. That's sounds alot better. Lol. Since you know everything, more than this Liam guy, have someone do an interview with you. Oh, that's right, you don't know as much as this guy, you don't know shit. Now, shut the hell up. Thanks.

If you look at Retro's website (which is pretty old school retro in itself),  in the jobs openings section they used to be hiring for the following:

  • Character Artist
  • Concept Artist
  • Technical Animator
  • Tools Engineer
  • Graphics Engineer
  • All those above positions have been filled except for a single Graphics Engineer position.  With the hiring of artists, animators and tools specialist being completed it could mean they've moved on to the next phase of development.

I'm sure it does. I hope so. I love retros games, they're a great developer. I'm hoping for an nx launch window title, but I'm betting against it, they just seem too far out for that to happen.

I would love a new prime, but if they do a 2.5d game, I pray it's a classic metroid. That would make me a happy gamer.

I can't wait to see what Retro comes up with! They haven't disappointed!

    2.5D doesn't exist.

I think it's very safe to assume that this will be a launch window game, and that we'll know about it by E3 2016. If this is the western game Liam thinks it is, this could be huge for the NX. Let's just hope Retro gets the budget and hires the writers necessary to make this thing a massive success.

    DK was Retro's own choice.
