Forums - Nintendo - NX might have a chance

Is pokemon a killer app for the NX?

Definetly. 89 43.63%

Maybe. 59 28.92%

No way. 56 27.45%

Pokemon is kiddy. Say whatever you want, but the amount of 20 somethings that would actually buy a home console for Pokemon is few and far between. You guys represent the vocal minority.

Nintendo's next console much appeal to a wider audience than the one they already have, which is, the Pokemon audience.

There is nothing more kiddy than the word kiddy. I think you'd be very surprised about the number of 20 somethings who like Pokémon. My university has a thriving Pokémon society (the only gaming series that manages to maintain a society all on its own), I've seen what the community looks like.

That said, I agree with your second point. Nintendo need to appeal to more than just Pokémon fans, who form a chunk of their base. Don't make the mistake of thinking all Pokémon fans bought a Wii U - large, large numbers of them did not - but clearly Nintendo need more than just the Pokémon crowd. The big question for Nintendo is how they make their console have more mainstream appeal, and Pokémon is not the answer.

Why are people obsesses with the idea of a Pokemon MMO? The series was in its prime on the original Game Boy, when online play was nonexistent and link cables were mandatory. The traditional MMORPG has been declining since 2010 or so, and the MOBA genre is a terrible fit for the main Pokemon series. And Game Freak is not exactly renowned for their size or programming prowess. How do you expect a medium sized developer that only made the polygonal jump a few years ago to make a thriving MMO?

You have, quite literally, no idea what you're talking about. Pokemon is as powerful of a brand as it is because it absolutely transends age barriers. Pokemon would do GTAV numbers with the proper production values. And half that audience would be the 20 somethings that bought the originals.

No, it was in its prime on the DS, when online was first introduced.

That's besides the point, though. Pokemon should never try to be an MMO.

i imagine how many Amiibo should i buy to have all pokemon , not include super rare amiibo that worth milion dolar

Don't give Nintendo any ideas. They're crazy enough to end up doing it.

A pokemon MMO could do quite well, I think, but what NX really needs are fresh, attention-grabbing sotware beyond what we typically think of from Nintendo consoles, good versions of classic franchises, and a complete selection of retro games played on a machine that is fresh and appealing to core and casual gamers alike.

But that means they have to compete with Playstation and that's a damn hard fight besides Japan. Nintendo needs to do at what it was best. Being different with a cheap console without multimedia BS and produce a shitload of awesome exclusive games and make sure some third party titles release on the NX to fill the gaps.

The NX doesn't have to become a gamer's only console but should have enough support (a big title every month) to be that console. Besides that Nintendo should widen their genres we only want so much 2d platformers. Give us a pokemon rpg with an epic story line. A movie like game etc.

You just described GameCube.  How on earth is that what Nintendo does best? Nintendo needs to break new ground if they want to capture market share and have a lasting place in gamers' conscience.

Actually the biggest problem Pokemon (games) has, is that the vast majority of it's audience is 20 somethings. But you're damn right about the need for Pokemon to appeal to a wider audience - if it doesn't capture the sub-15 year olds, the franchise is going to be niche in a decade.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

I think he was talking in terns of sales/popularity where Pokémon Gen 1 sold over 30 million

In that case, it's absolutely incorrect to assume that more connectivity lead to lower sales.
