Forums - Nintendo - NX might have a chance

Is pokemon a killer app for the NX?

Definetly. 89 43.63%

Maybe. 59 28.92%

No way. 56 27.45%

Total:204

Well, I'm not exactly a huge fan of Pokemon, so an MMO probably wouldn't be the game to make me go out and get an NX, so yea...

No doubt that a Pokemon MMO would be big, but I don't think that alone could save the NX.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

The NX, a console we don't know anything about whatsoever, might indeed have a chance!

This pretty much sums up how I feel about all these NX threads.

Pokemon and Monster Hunter and Mario series and Youkai Watch series could save everything

A pokemon MMO could do quite well, I think, but what NX really needs are fresh, attention-grabbing sotware beyond what we typically think of from Nintendo consoles, good versions of classic franchises, and a complete selection of retro games played on a machine that is fresh and appealing to core and casual gamers alike.

But that means they have to compete with Playstation and that's a damn hard fight besides Japan. Nintendo needs to do at what it was best. Being different with a cheap console without multimedia BS and produce a shitload of awesome exclusive games and make sure some third party titles release on the NX to fill the gaps.

The NX doesn't have to become a gamer's only console but should have enough support (a big title every month) to be that console. Besides that Nintendo should widen their genres we only want so much 2d platformers. Give us a pokemon rpg with an epic story line. A movie like game etc.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Thats actually something that keeps the pokemon series a little stale, the lack of a true story, its been the same since the original y/b/r. It also dosent have to be a the last of us level of story, it just has to have something. they have a series, so using assets from that should be easy for game freak.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

An MMO would be alright. I would prefer a 4 player coop game, but you can fully build and custumize a gym and battle 4 man teams online.

Pokemon might be a killer app for the NX, however an MMO would definately drive Pokemon into ground - then again, the series have been running circle for two decades already and it's hard to see how it could evolve without drastic changes, so maybe it's time for Pokemon to go.

The main series Pokemon DO have a true story (though, it's usually the same, just like Zelda) and it has multiple dimensions in it, but if you mean more cinematic storytelling, Colosseum and XD would be what you're looking for.

Sorry for the double post.

Extensive online? Yes. MMO? Absolutely not. Pokemon will and should stay a primarily single player experience. Less WoW and more XCX.

I'd be happy with jump in and out online co-op. I don't need a MMO. The game system just needs to allow a second person at all times. The game would worked fine that way.
