Finally a company not focusing on useless figures that don't benefit anyone but the shareholders

Yeap...

Focusing in a metric shared between 4 plataforms that means nothing for anybody is a better solution lol

At least shipment numbers were Xbone + 360... now these Live Accounts are Xbone + 360 + PC + Phone... everything to hide how bad they are doing with Xbox brand.

totally makes sense to go multi and all platform with theire services as the whole company philosohpy. but for gaming, yeah they should focus on one single piece of hardware (like sony does). the xbox one! because nothing else matter.

you guys are wrong. the xbox one console it the one that matters the least.
people playing games and spending money on ms platforms is what ms and shareholders care about

xbox one is just for the purpose of achieving that. even just a part
nadella is aware of that and way ahead of all you guys and the competition

So active accounts for you tells whos is actually using the consoles... so can you share with us how much are using Xbone? Or PR? Or Phone? Or 360?

I think the goal would be to make games for W10 so they can be played on any devices that run W10. No matter what device people are playing with... for game developers it would only mean that their games can be sold to that many userbase (granted they port their games to support different control scheme).

Active Accounts means nothing... sorry to tell you buddy.

They increased active accounts on PC, Phone, 360 or Xbone?
These accounts are Silver or Gold?

I can go aead...

I doubt that the 39 milion active Xbox Live accounts already include the Microsoft accounts on PC and/or Windows phone. Otherwise they should be way higher.

Your not making much sense. There talking about ACTIVE accounts, meaning accounts that dont sit there for years unused. You really prefer to read up on millions of console sales? How do you know how many bad batches there are? Have you ever been to a retailer, go ask how many machines get returned, exchanged or refunded. Active accounts isnt a perfect way either but its much more accurate because accounts cannot be faulty, returned or refunded. And MS normally tell us how many Gold Members there are so if you really want to know how many gamers are playing Xbox, then those figures nail it down.

They are talking about Active Accounts shared between PC, Phones, Xbone and 360.

So no... these figures give us nothing about how many gamers are playing Xbox lol

Did you even read the Article? Its shared across all platforms yes but there are only 2 right now you can game on which is the 360 and XB1, Mobile and PC is still too new so most of them are Xbox owners. Logging into my phone with my Xbox account means i own an active account which also means i most likely have an XBox. I could go out and buy 3 XB1s just to say MS have gain 3 customers which they havent. Thats why Sales are misleading and it has brought nothing to this gaming world but flame wars. Active accounts you cant argue with that.

MS accounts and Live Accounts are distinct, but PC live accounts include anything entertainment related like Groove, Movies & TV Apps, or Xbox app for windows which can be used without an Xbox, for XBL services

Active Accounts is far more accurate to us gamers then sales figures which includes Faulty Systems, Horders, Multi-buyers, Returns etc. My friend owns 4 PS3s, but on the sales charts it makes the gaming community believe there are 4 customers. Active accounts tell us whos actually using there consoles and there wont be many paying for more then 1 subscription per average house hold. Its a far better method which benefits everyone then simple sales figures which is mislead in so many ways.

Not really seeing as you can have many active accounts per box.

Xbox live is free on PC. Id say a platform that has around 50-60 million users by now combined and clearly will grow is pretty successful.

MS doesnt need to make hardware anymore, just look at how many companys are willing to make steambox's id imagine the would be even more companys willing to make xbox consoles since this was MS's original plan for the xbox and they never really wanted to make the hardware themselfs they just wanted a way to get their platform in front of peoples tv's.

but the real money maker here is XBL subs on the XB1 and 360. if they ditch that, then where are they going to make money from? they can try and support XBL on PC and try competing with Steam, GOG and origin. but they wont be able to win that fight.

Same way steam makes money, by taking a precentage of the sales, i think steam takes like 30% so all MS has to do is the same thing.

Your last part sounds like when the PS3 and X360 was launching, MS will never compete with Sony etc. With the right stratagy and the right games and since unlike steam Xbox live store is apart of everyones windows 10 pc's/smartphones/tablets/xbox consoles. Its all being joined as one platform this is what your failing to see imo.

Steam also doesn't have much in the way of expenses especially when compared to those concerning Xbox that Microsoft spends.

The only additional revenue stream XBL can "create" is similar to that of origin's method, sell games and services inacessible to Steam or other vendors. When it comes to multiplats, they aren't going to magically have the same number of sales, they have to take those from other vendors. Just like MS took PS customers from Sony. They also created a platform that offered what the PS3 couldn't. Unfortunately, for MS, Steam doesn't have those crucial problems, so the space isn't there to move into.

As for being on multiple joined platforms it has to compete with Steam on Tablet and PC, and App Store/Google Play on Mobile. With the exception of streaming or crossbuy, the actual benefit isn't all that clear.

Wait a sec, those 39 million active accounts are gold + silver, while you can make as many alternate non paying accounts as you want? (Since you only need 1 gold subscription per household)

Now it wouldn't surprise if that 66% increase in gaming revenue, driving by Minecraft, also includes all the Minecraft merchandise...

they do

at least if you made your microsoft account an xbox live account
most people who use xbox live on xbox live, also use it on pc or phone so they won't count twice

and 40 million this early in the window 10 gen is quit low. the number will get much bigger.
do you remeber the monthly active whatsapp users, whey they were bought by facebook? 400 millon
monthly active intagramm user 200 million
monthly active steam user 125 million
playsation network monthly active user 65 million

just to put things into perspective

Well now that Microsoft and Sony are becoming more and more vague with their per unit sales, and NPD becoming more and more exclusive with its information... VGChartz is actually in a great position to be successful. Surely this means a resurgence in its dedication to deliver numbers! Surely!
