I think Game of the Year editions are a tad pretentious. This one is the worst offender as it is releasing the same calendar year as the original AND before the year in question is even over.

How presumptive to declare your game GOTY before any game of the year articles have been written.

Cool cover though.

It will win quite a few GOTYs no question about that. I do not see the issue

Two Worlds II had a GOTY edition (Velvet GOTY Edition) on october 18 2011 without having any GOTY award

Game of the Year Edition

On July 15, 2011, it was announced that the game would be receiving a "Velvet GOTY Edition" set for release October 18 later that year. This announcement has raised some questions among gaming publications, as it has been reported that Two Worlds II has not been named "Game of the Year" by any major media outlets.[8] The PC version was released on October 18, the Xbox 360 version was released on November 2 and the PlayStation 3 version followed on December 9.[9]

And ? Nevertheless, this version has been released, and I don't think Topware had been sued for this.
GOTY edition is just a marketing term for a game with all theirs DLC as Wright said.
For BB, I won't be surprised if a review in vg press has already stated (in the enthusiasm) that it is "the game of the year".

I have no doubt Bloodborne will win at least one game of the year award. In fact I think it will win several. That is not the point. The point is that preemptively declaring victory and boasting is a douche move.

Isn't it a bit early to be boasting goty?

I think you are looking to much into it.....

I did a little bit of digging because the reception of this version seems to have stirred the pot;

Bloodbornes in a somewhat unique position compared to its contemporaries as far as GOTY editions go - Most games that have the gall to come forth later on with a GOTY edition have a few things going for them that Bloodborne did not. The first being a release date close to black friday/christmas (seriously, nearly all the AAA games that COULD win GOTY end up releasing around the holidays). This is important to note because Bloodborne came out very early this year and one of the main complaints I'm seeing here has to do with the GOTY version coming out the same calender year. When your game is released in September, October, November then it's fairly obvious you aren't going to announce or release the same game with all the DLC thrown in just a month or two later. This leads me into my next point.

Bloodborne only has one expansion pack. Only one piece of DLC. If Sony Japan/From know that they're moving onto other projects, if they know the games done with after this DLC comes out then it really shouldn't upset people that the GOTY version comes out sooner than later. On that note, Bloodborne has been one of the most successful launches for a new IP this year. Given the competition, especially for new IP, you would be a fool to say it won't win at least a few awards.

So are we getting this and a physical release for the DLC?
