I hope you don't think I'm saying bad things about UE3. My only complain is it's performance. Since it's a cross platform engine it's not equally optimized for all platforms and we all know the PS3 suffers the most from it (Epic optimized the shit out of it for GeoW/360).
But I agree, GeoW is one the best looking games on the 360. I think both Assassin's Creed and CoD4 (PS3/360) look equally amazing. But on the PS3 side, I think that Uncharted, Ractchet and Heavenly Sword look better than GeoW. Too bad Heavenly Sword frame rate sucks :(

Uncharted? (unless you mean non-exclusives) then AC and CoD might come closish, though CoD textures were lacking

Uncharted looks...i mean wow...and I think thats it. Rest look better in some aspects but lack the punch the rain level had on me in gears of war.
Did you guys notice how that level didn't have a purpose at all? It was just there to look pretty for our eyes...

I agree... and that's why I'm coming round to the Insomniac way of thinking which says don't go middlewear with engines.
The best U3 engine games are those developed by... wait for it... the guys that built the engine.
The best Source engine games are those developed by... wait for it... the guys that built the engine.
And so on and so forth. It just seems to me recently that there's a real trend where games using licenced engines don't look as good as those developed but the engine developer or games (like Uncharted or R&C or Assassin's Creed) that were developed on their own engines (there are some notable exceptions like Bioshock but they seem to be the minority now).
Also, every developer talks about how they wrote their own extension for this or that or added this code and it makes me wonder why licence in the first place if you're going to muck about with an engine you know less about than its own designers and produce inferior results? And look at all the sparks flying about Too Human... not to mention Turok and Blacksite 51 or whatever it was called.
What do others think? Is this becoming a noticable trend?
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
The way X-Play had dedicated an entire episode of wanking to this game, I thought it would have been more polished.

@reasonable
Actually the whole issue of Epic games looking better with UE3 than licensed games from other developers is a very serious concern since there are certain developers like Silicon Knights alleging that Epic intentionally holds back updated versions of their engine for their own use and doesn't provide proper support to other developers.
