PlayStation Vita will win. People will realize in the month of October that Persona 4: Dancing All Night is inexplicably the greatest game ever made, and everyone will flock to the Vita to play it.
But seriously, this one is up in the air. I'm unsure whether a single week, even if it's Halo week, is enough to overcome PS4's strong presence during the rest of the month.
I still think it will be REALLY bad press for Xbox if they can't win the October NPD.

Microsoft is the underdog here, not even considering the current marketshare.
Price (Deal) vs Game, game alone has never won, and as an exclusive Halo 5 already has some strikes against it that's going to make it even harder. It's not as clear cut as some people think (or hope)

In this day and age, with the Internet, ignorance is a choice! And they're still choosing Ignorance! - Dr. Filthy Frank

i'm surprised by how many are betting on xbox.

A) ps4 has won almost ever NPD this year.
B) price cut is active most of october while halo only has one week
C) since when ever has a game release caused a bigger spike than a price cut/new model?!?! seriously, go look at the WoW for the halo 3 launch then look at the price drop weeks.

Both are not trying to do that.  I suspect Sony could rid MS of the console space rather easily; It's not in their best interest to do so though because they benefit from the competition. MS conversely created Xbox to stop Playstations growth as a brand in what they percieved as a threat to the PC space.  Additionally the means to which each company are willing to go through for success is not parallel to each other.  We have little to few examples of Sony buying their success as opposed to generating it, or devaluing their brand to maintain marketshare.  On a moral level, I find it much easier to justify the purchase of a PS4 over an X1.

@ the bold - This is not a matter of your opinion on the fun factor of first party titles.  This is a matter of your opinion on 1st party IP creation.

And just to iterate -

Halo - Bought from an independent company.

Gears of War - Bought from an independent company.

Minecraft - Bought from an independent company.

Fable - Bought from an independent company.

What major IPs are left afterward that they had a hand in creating?

Forza; There's more, I know there's more so I'm sure you'll be able to list them off.

No... I'm sorry but no. I disagree. Buying first party or creating the studios for them or even off-loading the dev. to a third party studio does not make it less appealing. It is basically a different strategy for the same exact result. The majority of what you are saying in tainted and I can see that you favor the Playstation/Sony side by far (which is okay and not a critic). You are acting like buying a good game is not as good as making it by themselves, it does not makes any sense. A good game is a good game lol no matter how you got it on your platform.

You have to realize that games from Sony Studios (first parties) are not as exciting as you may think for a majority of Xbox owners too. And the funny part is that it is due to loyalism I guess because games coming from both side are good at the end and they are both selling as much...

And finally. Sony could not get rid of Microsoft as easily as you think. Not at all actually. The only way would be for Microsoft to be willing to abandon the market which will not happen. (other than in dreams of all the haters out there that are hoping that generation after generation of console).

I cannot believe people still believe Sony is a nice little company passionate about gaming and gamer's happyness instead of making a huge load of money on their back using any strategy they can or money they have like any other businesses out there :)

I think PS4 will still win. Halo after all only has a few days on the market to make any difference. And if PS4 was already outselling Xbone with that library and a $50 higher price, I don't see Halo 5 making much of a difference. Of course, Microsoft can cut price as well, that would change things.

opting instead to buy their marketshare instead of working for it.  We know that Microsoft, with a cash reserve of >$96 billion is losing to a company that has around $8 billion sitting in the bank.

You're kind of killing your own argument here. If Microsoft were trying to buy marketshare then apparently they would be dominating Sony handidly because someone just posted on VGChartz that apparently Microsoft has more than $96,000,000,000 in the bank while Sony only has $8,000,000,000. Also, a post like that completely ignores how Sony got into the business. They bought their way in via exclusive deals, royalty breaks, and eating huge losses on hardware, something old school companies did not do. They used their money to get their way in, which is usually how it is done. I guess there is a statute of limitations on this though, idk.

Anyways, just wanted to point out the silliness of that comment.

Ps4!

The title is inaccurate as Sony has more than a price drop with more exclusives releasing and a price drop.Uncharted Collection is doing very good according to Amazon and the other games will bring in enough consumers to put PS4 on top once again.

I think Sony will win. Halo 5 doesn't seem to have as much hype as previous Halo games did.

Hard to predict. I am giving this one to ps4 by less than 50k just because I feel like halo 5 is releasing late in the month plus the ps4 price cut.
