Forums - Nintendo - Just as Nintendo is finally getting into FPS and Open World games- are gamers getting over these genres?

Splatoon is third person, not first person.

and tbh I don't think open world is going anywhere.

Look at how many COD games there are. Each game is an FPS and look how much it sells. Now combine that with all the other FPS's, you'd think people would get tired of the genre.
But they don't.

It'll be the same with open world. It's not a genre obviously, but it'll still be the same most likely.

Splatoon is haaardly a FPS. It's a cartoonized TPS.

People are getting a little tired of FPS and open world, but just a little. The market is still strong.

Zelda has a market and will sell very well on WiiU, but Nintendo is probably adjusting the game to sell on NX system as well, so I won't buy a WiiU until official news of the next system.

3DS, Wii, PSP, Vita, PS2, PS3, PS4 & Steam.

FPS is slowly becoming less popular, but Splatoon is Third Person and it really caught on well, so I don't think there is anything to worry about that

Open World is still really popular so I don't see that going away any time soon..

Sorry, but Splatoon is not FPS (First Person Shooter). As far as I remember N64 was the console to play FPS, before the Xbox 360. It had GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, Turok, Quake, Doom, Duke Nuken, Hexen etc.

The trend for more and more open-world hasn't given in yet, and has even intensified now that we have really powerful hardware to take advantage of.

And where is that FPS Nintendo makes?

People aren't getting tired of shooters; people are getting tired of CoD, Battlefield, and other rinse and repeat franchises. And as for open world games, no, although big, high budget games that fail to expand upon predecessors in meaningful ways (or just be of good quality in general) like half the crap Ubi is shoveling out is getting stale.

Verdict: The genre isn't getting old in the eyes of the people, it's the franchises that don't do anything with the genre to make it fresh. Splatoon has large appeal, as well as having interesting aesthetic and unique ideas, so people won't be getting sick anytime soon.

bet: lost

Series will come and go. Genres will rise and fall. Nintendo will last forever :P

Splatoon! Future Zelda U at some point!

Nintendo is finally giving its loyal fans what they want, years after we have been burned out on these genres. How many more open worlds, world creators and first person shooters can the world stomach?

The answer is that as long as Nintendo brings their own special something to these genres we will never get tired of them. So after we get CoD 30 and Halo 19 and GTA 10 and Madden 100 will people be over it?

Ofcourse not, you'll always have new gamers and old gamers to buy up the latest edition. Personnally I hardly ever get a chance for any of it so I saver it when I get my hands on one of the games I mentioned above. I say just keep shoving it down my throat! I never get tired of the same thing over and over again!

Especially now that Nintendo has joined the party at long last.

Sorry I don't want to be rude, but you are making too many obvious and dumb threads.

And no, gamers are not getting over these genres, also Splatoon is TPS and of the fastest selling Wii U game.

Yup, I think open world console games are becoming mainstream this gen.

Clearly not if people keep buying them in droves.

And Splatoon is a TPS, not a FPS. Also, I'd argue that in a way Zelda has always been "open world," just not as open as Zelda U will be.
