WA I think will get a new game but will not be budgetted as an AAA title. Not only is the creator at a new and smaller company, but the series has never maintained its level of relevance as the games went on. Rumours have it that they have perhaps 2 JRPGS in development (one from lvl5), but I dont think its something Sony needs to actively look into. PS4 is JRPG heaven at this point. It has more than either the X1 or WiiU, and is getting mostly everything else (where X1 and WiiU) arent. that genre is covered and Sony making JRPGS, is not really going to expand their userbase. But it would be cool to see whatthey have in store in that genre anyways. Maybe at PGW or PSX we get a tease. That would be fun. |
Yeah, I know the PS4 will become the place to play JRPGs, but right now it's not really there yet, at least for me. I'll have to wait a lil longer. I won't really be bothered if WA is not treated as a AAA game. As long as it's fun and well made with that cowboy feel, I'd be fine with that. I'd like the style of WA5 myself. I really loved the art there, and the music, ooh so nice... ; ) And Bralod won't be too happy about your comment about LoD x )

I really don't think that's what he was saying since it runs pretty much opposite to the rest of his statement.
Well, it depends on how you look at things. Typically - it's ironic in a sense, when a platform's doing really well, studio side kind of struggles. It probably has some relationship to these two things. When a platform's doing well, third-parties support it more. So from a pure software standpoint, there'll be more competition. When the platform's not doing so well, our games become more prominent, and we get larger market share within the same platform. Because we continue to support the PS3, in the launch year of the PS4 we had The Last of Us and Gran Turismo 6 and Beyond and so on, many games, we were still working hard. We're just head-down, focussed on delivering the games for the near future. We're happy with how it's going, and we're excited about welcoming PlayStation VR. From a delivering games standpoint, we have work to do. People constantly ask us for the big exclusive triple-A games.
He's saying that when you have a lot of third-party support, exclusives tend to get a smaller piece of the pie as far as sales go. Because there is more competition from third party games.
He actually says "We're just head-down, focussed on deliverying the games for the near future. We're happy with how it's going."
The thread title is way off base and more than a bit misleading.
Bet with Adamblaziken:
I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

What are you trying to imply? I didn't say it to take a shot at Sony if that's what you're thinking.

Comparing PS3 to PS4, it's a drastic change imo. Even since the E3 unveiling it seems like they've just sat back on their thrones and just coasted. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's my take.
And I am a month or so away from owning all three consoles so I want them to do great.

Where was the PS3 exclusive wise at this point in it's life? As far as I remember it was MGS:4, Uncharted, and a Ratchet game or 2, but that was really it. There was LBP and Resistance 2 later in 2008, but It was 2009 that saw KZ:2, Uncharted 2, and Infamous.
So far the PS4 has KZ: Shadow Fall, Bloodborne, Until Dawn, Infamous: Second Son, ect. That's not a bad list, and 2016 looks just insane for the PS4. The PS4 didn't see a year that looked that good until much later. 2011 probably, that's 2018 for the PS4.

I'm not JUST talking about exclusives but about corporate wide competitiveness. Remember Kevin Butler? Remember free online gameplay? Remember the HUGE price reductions early on? Remember how much better the UI got from 2006 to 2009? Remember the awesome PS Plus games they were giving out?
I am old enough to remember the PS2 vividly. I was in my early 20's. Right now, this era feels closer to that Sony than the PS3 Sony which was lagging behind and fighting tooth and nail to win gamers back. Saying that it's only been two years since launch and thus, we shouldn't expect this or that because the PS3 didn't do it yet is not an apple to apples thing. Sony isn't IN dire straights, searching for a way to win. They ARE winning, and have figure out how to win years ago so, there really isn't any more excuses.

Even if it ends up being a thing, it won't come out for another 2 years. The people that left Naughty dog were really important and left a huge dent. The studio doesnt have 2 teams anymore... so whatever they do next, isn't coming anytime soon. Whats Rigs? Never heard of it. Then theres GT7... who knows when that will come out. Gravity rush is super niche and i couldnt enjoy the original. Let's not even mention the last guardian. Hopefully it happens next year. Horizon is a step in the right direction. They need more like it. But from that list, i see Uncharted, last guardian (hopefully), Horizon, (Bend's game?) and Ratchet and clank (is this still popular?). If anything is saving them, its No man's sky. Btw lets not degenerate this debate into how many X has and how many Y has. I don't care how many Microsoft have. I care that i'm not satisfied with what Sony has. |
and i couldnt care less if you feel satisfied or not. ^^
if you dont like what sony and thirds are about to deliver than playstation isnt for you. i'm not referring to ps4 but to ps in general.
edit: tlou2 is a thing. and when it comes out isnt relevant. its about sony working on exclusive material for ps4. there is ssm with their unannounced project. media molecule with their dreams. no mans sky is not exclusive btw.
srsly, if you're complaining about this varied quantity than i guess not only ps isnt for you, but console gaming as a whole. but especially playstation. its ridiculous to call games niche only to devalue them. those (quality) niche games are an important part of the playstation brand.
Hunting Season is done...

I dont care that you don't care about what i want. Its Sony that has to care about what their customers want.
I also didnt even mention 3rd parties, wich isnt the topic. What is for me is my decision to make. :)
TLOU2 is not a thing. You haven't kept up with interviews if you don't know that. Naughty Dog hasnt decided what it is they are going to work on next is. They made fun of Nolan North because of that(he said they were working on it, but all they did were concept tests until they had to drop it because they were asked to work on uncharted 4. The next project isnt going to be decided upon until Uncharted 4 is finished).
So, i must say your pathetic atempts at singling me out are well... pathetic. This thread is proof of that itself. If you are satisfied with their (Sony's) offering, good for you. If you are trying to fight console wars, or personal vendetta's i will have to ignore your posts.
If after this you still wish to debate the topic, then i'm ok with that. But, i fear you didnt pay atention to my post. The list you posted is comprised in half of games that will not come out next year. This year was very scarce for first party aswell. Yes, third parties are supporting the PS4 well, but Sony themselves arent. They should aim towards having a stronger line-up. No one wants a first party slacking cause they managed to have a sucessful hardware generation. That is the arrogance that usually leads to a downfall in the following generation.
I want a bigger and better Sony. The gamers can only benefit from that. I don't see how you can have a problem with that, but alas.

You forget that a lot of those were sollutons to problems the PS4 doesn't have. The PS3 got big UI changes and huge price cuts because it launched with a crappy UI and a crazy price, the PS4 didn't.
The instant game collection didn't exist until 2010 and then didn't start giving big games until June of 2012. Not to mention that until November 2012 they were only giving out 2 games a month, not 6.
Bold: But it's just plain silly to compare the accomplishments of a console in it's first two years to the accomplishments of a console over the course of seven years.
You mentioned in your first post that Sony was being lazy. So I have to ask, what could Sony be doing right now that would make them active and energized.
We are aproaching what could be one of the best games years a Playstation console has ever seen, and the launch of a virtual reality headset. That hardly seems like sitting on their hands to me.
