In fact all their bundles are overpriced to increase the perception on value when they inevitable cut they price.

MS know exactly what they want to achieve, they just don't always pull it off.

Oh my,  that's quite a theory you've got there! So MS is purposely overpricing their bundles now so as to "increase the perception of value" when they cut the price later?   M'kay, that sounds reasonable  O.o

I can just imagine how that master plan went down at Microsoft HQ...

Microsoft CFO: "We've really got to increase sales for the remainder of the year. Let's set a competive price right now and then we can lower the price on Black Friday like everyone else does."

Phil Spencer:" No!"...... (whips off his glasses and turns dramatically to glare into the camera). That's EXACTLY what they're EXPECTING us to do!

That's not really an off-base concept at all, and is a pretty old hat retail trick. The X1 is seeing a markup with the 1TB units, but in all actuality, doubling the unit storage doesn't justify a 50 dollar hike. Maybe, I don't know, 20 bucks at the most. Slashing the prices on those shouldn't hurt them too badly. If they bring down the 500GBs to $299, yeah, that's going to set them back, but they probably figure it's better to burn some cash over too much cash.

MS knows that showtime is at the end months of the year, which is why they have called the months before October the "pre-season". They keep all the major releases ready for this period because they want to move a lot of units at once with the holiday crowd. How else to do that but offer the same perception that they did last year. Make it seem as if they're offering temporary price cuts to move an insane amounts of units this holiday since it worked TREMENDOUSLY well last holiday season.

It's very likely it's going to happen. MS has been working overtime to get the X1 try to keep pace with the PS4 in the US by offering a plethora of retail promotions every month. MS will burn cash to keep the Xbox brand alive, but, they're doing in a way that's not going to totally harm them this year.

So they removed the gift card and just reduced the price to 349
List price still 399.99 but it seems like it's basically an informal price cut that will become official on the 9th

The problem with MS right now is that they are making games for holidays to end up in discount bins just weeks after launch. There's too much Competition and you're just leaving those titles out to die without getting their profits back.

Sony can atleast offer their AAA+AA games in a bundle without losing money and improving userbase of their games. Can you imagine Sony doing a Novermber and December PS+ combos of Killzone Shadow Fall+ Infamous SS+Bloodborne+DriveClub+Knack+The Order+Until Dawn+TlOUR+GoW3R? That's peanuts to them.

There is nothing that MS can do to stop the sales that the COD bundle and BF bundle will give the PS4.Nothing legally anyway.

COD LE PS4 console will push an insane amount. Especially if the do a BF deal with it. Holiday is shaping up to be an intriguing battle.

It is not a long way from release though. The bundle comes out in just 16 days, other big bundles, like the Destiny one, were cememted in the top twenty by that stage already. The Halo bundle will do great, and X1 will win the month,  but the bundle is underperforming right now against expectations.

but its 500$, of course its going to under performe. the halo 5 effect will happen at launch on the 27th. when the casuals come in to buy halo 5, and a new XB1 at the stores. they will just get an XB1 at 350$ and halo 5 with it. most wont bother with a 500$ bundle.

While I agree some will just walk into a store and buy a XBO, I think it's also likely that many who have wanted to play Halo, may have already bought a XBO.  I mean if the $499 bundle isn't appealing to them, there's really nothing stopping them from buying a XBO, now.  They could just buy a normal one, or one of the bundles for $349, then preorder the game.  Given that is a good choice, I think it's very telling that the PS4 still has several bundles well ahead of the XBO SKUs.
