A lot of consoles being sold. Sony have a huge headstart next month that is for sure.

Microsoft has to win this month. If not they will be written off. The sale doesn't seem extreme enough, so they must be close.

Not extreme?  They just knocked $100 dollars off a bundle, one that will appeal to families, like it was nothing just to try and win Oct.  And I bet they are taking a loss on that one, too.

Lol some of the comments of this thread are hilarious, Microsoft made profit with the Halo bundle at 500$ now obviously they are discounting the bundles that wouldn't sell much anyway. Very common strategy.

Compared to what? The PS4? You can not compare sales and profit like that. You dont need to sell extreme to make profits.

Spot on 😁

When that Kinect bundle was announced I commented it being ridiculously overpriced for 500GB model. This price drop was most likely planned in advance, smart move to sell it indeed. The power of price drop without making much losses I think. And it's great there's at least some demand for Kinect, I still hope they'd keep supporting that lovely device.

I would be very pissed if i'd bought a bundle that was announced for a price and a week later have a deep pricecut. It may even be ruled unfair pratice.

This argument again, it reminds me of last year. It's such a great tactic to initially sell a bundle for a terrible price and then cut it massively to increase sales. Truly genius

Anyway, Battlefront and Cod above Halo.

I did not know they were selling it full price before, I though it just went on sale. Dick move then, for those who bought it full price. If anyone did. Also there's a difference between smart and genius :)

There is a reason why MS have triggered these deals and it's not because they are winning. What happened to Phil Spencers profit before quantity of sales?

They just know how embarrassing it will be if they lose in their home turf, with their largest exclusive launching.  They must have some early numbers and/or inside sources, and know they are either almost tied with the PS4 or behind by a decent amount.  These last minute deals are just to try to create a lead in the home stretch of the month.

I doubt they will have any reasonably reliable PS4 numbers, but they are probably making an inside guess at what PS4 might be expected to achieve, and thus if their Xb one tracking, which they will have a decent handle on, is not looking like reaching the target for the month then the will swing contingencies into action.

The negative press MS would get if the NPD announcement was PS4 wins October in the USA would be just too much to handle. And while in normal months spin about YoY growth, and still being ahead of 360 at the same time last gen, more people on XBL etc gets let off with a shrug, any of that spin to divert attention away from losing Halo month would be jumped at as MS in denial. Profits in Halo monthy can be damned. Focus can go back on profits next month or next year.
