You might live in a cosmopolitain city, but you should be aware that most places in the world - including Europe are not cosmopolitain. We actually have thousands of years of culture and history. We're not world citizens, we're citizens of our own countries. That's a fact. People in other countries should not be a concern unless it's a concern to our national interests.

The fucking European Union is a Superstate for god's sake, Member states of the EU are borderless with each other, use the same fucking currency, and do not tariff each other, that is by definition cosmopolitan, that is what a fact looks like. So you should be aware that saying Europe, the most cosmofuckingpolitian continent on earth, is completely wrong and stop projecting your 19th century era beliefs on the rest of the world.

I'm sure you would fit in real well in North Korea, the rest of the planet actually gives a fuck about each other, else things like the internet and social media would be a passing intrest.

Unless you are an irrelevant country, national interests are virtually the same to global interests. Case in point, the US, spent the last 50 years basically determining what global interest would be.

I don't necessarily agree with lawlight, but it shouldn't even be worth mentioning why the US would be different from Europe. Bringing the US up in a comparison isn't an apples to apples situation.

thats just BS... the nazis didnt used so much racism outside their party before they got into power in the 30s, their main talking point was getting back the land the french and polish had stolen in the first world war.  the antisemitis as main rethorical talking point in the broader public started after hitler had power.

big money wanted to sell weapons(thyssen,ford,rightwing media,etc) and hitler was willing to go to war over minor german areas like elsaß and danzig.

thats why some people compare putin with hitler, putin is doing basicly the same. taking back russian lands with major russian population. the main differencce is, putin doesnt uses massiv antisemitic propaganda inside his party and he isnt willing to go to war with the west over russian area like crimea

It's certainly a sad reality. Intolerance is very much alive in the world, and it comes in multiple forms. Sometimes I'm surprised by the number of bigoted people on this forum (and the Internet in general, really). Even when there's only one person in a thread behaving as such, it's still disconcerting.

I didn't say anything about bombing Syria. But ISIS only rose from the decapacitation of their leader, Saddam. Saddam was a necessary evil who controlled his extremist armies. They invaded Iraq, killed many people including civilians, never found this so called nuclear weapon, then left.

What did they leave behind? A boatload of weapons, and some very angry extremists. If someone punched you in the face, i'm sure you would hold resentment to them, probably want to punch them back, or kick them harder.

As for Assad, he was democratically elected. He's a bad man no doubt, but when you're living with a bad man on one side, and extremist terrorists on the other, and you're stuck in the middle of a 4-way war, all nothing to do with you, what else do you expect but people fleeing that war.

I live in an EU country and no we don't all have the euro. The EU is largely homogenous, aside from some parts of France, Germany and UK. We have a strong sense of history and cultural identity separate from the EU - negative opinion polling regarding the EU (even before the crisis) would show that most people do not want to be ruled by any "superstate". A country should have the right to decide it's own destiny.

This is ridiculous - all you proved was that the US pursue it's own interests abroads through US friendly economic and political policies. Imposing your own interests on others doesn't make it global interest.

People care about their own - read any blog or news piece about the european refugee crisis and you will see that the very vast majority of comments are nationalistic and anti migrant. Opinion polling across the EU show that the majority of people do not want these refugees. We actually have a cultural heritage, which I'm sure is hard for an American to understand - and we don't just want to give it up because you think it'd be a nice thing to turn the entire world in to a giant melting pot. Keep that shit in America.
