The vita is definitely a failure.
The 3DS is not. Considering the standards and situation the 3DS had to face that no other handhelds had to face, I think they did a phenomenal job (despite probably doing a couple things better).

Yeah, I can't understand why peole think the 3DS is a failure.
It personally wouldn't call it a failure, but it is a disappointment.

EDIT: No really should

I think the best way to answer this is by an analogy.
Ryan Locke is a failure in the Olympics, since he didn't get as much medals as Michael Phelps did. We all no that's not true, correct?
The 3DS is a failure in that it didn't do as good as the DS.
For my opinion in this, the 3DS did enough to be a success. Anyone asking for more is just a butt-hogger. Not a reference for something, just a butt-hogger. Someone who hogs butts, for no damn reason other than wanting to hog all the butts they can.
You shouldn't compare it to the DS. Some systems really shouldn't be compared to XD It's not a failure for sure, but it is definitely under performing compared to how it should be. It's really odd too, after it hit 40-50 (too lazy to recheck) it just stopped selling... It's been where its at since the beginning of the year practically. I feel it has to do with it not being too much of an upgrade of a standard DS Lite so the average person won't feel the need to buy one since they feel like what they have is good enough

That's just the charts not getting updated. :p
But yeah, 3DS sales have really fallen off this year. Looking at the annual totals, as of the latest chart update, the 3DS is sitting at a pretty piddly 4-something million for the year despite the launch of the N3DS, and sales fell about a few million in 2014 compared to 2013. I expect the 3DS to settle between 60m and 70m, but I don't expect it to hit 60m before this year is up.

Yeah, I could see that. But I think it'll happen late next year with another price drop. I think by Fall/Winter 2016 the 2DS will be $80, 3DS XL $140, New 3DS XL at $170 and it seems in NA they're wanting to only bundle the standard New 3DS so it'll probably be around $170-ish. But we'll see what the future holds for the system. It'd be cool if it could reach 80m but I'm doubting that at this point

You can, it's called the PSP. Sold really well despite poor marketing strategies (Sony is 0/2 on delivering the true console on the go experience they've advertised, not even gonna touch the majority of the PSP's western advertisement), but because it wasn't the DS it had to have failed. I'd even argue people played more Nintendo games on the PSP than the DS! Thanks hacking!
More on topic: Nintendo came into this generation REALLY cocky, so the entire 8th gen was bound to disappoint. I mean they launched with six games and their star seller being a port and expected something like 17-20 million year one. This is probably the first year of the gen so far where Nintendo's official expectations were somewhat believeable, and they're in line with moderate success. You don't need to be a Game Boy or better to be a success; then again, everybody considers the GBA at 80 million a failure, even though it sold nearly 75% of that after the DS launched, so we really have no clue where we'll end up
You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt! I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading. After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!
best to not pay them to mind o.o
