Forums - Microsoft - Halo 5 has a ROCK SOLID performance (Digital Foundry)

I hope so cuz 343 keeps saying ti will run at a smooth 60fps.

Halo 5 uses dynamic resolution to maintain 60FPS. MCC did not have dynamic resolution. The argument for better graphics and higher resolution is simply that every other Halo has been 30FPS. You get the feeling that Microsoft fell for the framerate hype... or was this something that the fanbase had demanded.

lol Framerate hype wut?

It's an FPS it needs to be 60fps because it effects gameplay. That's about it.

Funny thing about that all is. Most of them console fans thats now arguring over res used to say it didnt matter lastgen. When some xbox owners used to point out that the game was running in a higher res "CoD" etc sony fans used to be like "Cant see the difference" "Res doesnt matter". And when PC fans used to point out that 1080P is sooo much better then Sub HD res's, Console fans used to be like "Na PC versions of the same games dont look much better, all they have is a higher res". But now its a big deal (Meanly to Sony fans it seems).

All ye guys should just get a PC and game in 4K res if res is so important... Oh wait, i guess "them games dont look much better" and 4K doesnt matter 1080P is the sweet spot just like 720P was lastgen or atleast when it fits an agenda....

We could spend all day making flawed generalizations about how hypocritical every fanbase is on almost ever topic, but as i already said to Jazz, there is really no need to have another one of these threads thrown into that kind of discussion. Let it drop here.

Didn't MCC and Driveclub have rock solid performance?

Hmm? MCC not, Driveclub did though.

Considering Driveclub is 30 fps, I don't think its relelvant.

Forza 5 and 6 on the other hand are a solid 60 fps.

Be it 30 or 60, rock solid performance means the frame rate remains constant without any or very rare dips.

Driveclub has rock solid performance. Especially considering all the graphical tech going on and the visual fidelity.

Thank you.

A lot of games maintain a solid 30 fps. Even the open world Forza Horizon 2. 60 fps is a different story.

Thank you.

I'd rather have slower performance and a FPS where I can sit on a couch with my GF and play together online. Been a Halo fan since the original and even own an Xbox One to play it but, I'm out. I don't play games isolated and alone.

No need mock those of us that aren't afraid to be alone for a moment. :-p

Makes you wonder how people could play on PS3 and 360... "1080p or nothing..."

There was a time when people were satisfies with a hoop and a stick. Demanding a game to run more than 720p30 is lunacy!

720p and 30 fps is fine on 8th gen if its pushing a presentation well beyond the capabilities of last gen. There is more to graphics than resolution and frame rate.

Anyhow, the only games doing 720p/30 fps on X1 are rare and poorly optimized.

I loved the beta and that was a 720p version.
I will take fps over resolution any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

The beta was 720p suffered from significant frame dips.

That beta had me worried about how the final version would be but its clear there has been significant optimization since then.

lol... I just enjoy playing FPS with someone else. For me, it's more fun because you can team up against people and employ strategies. When I'm playing alone, it always feels like I'm by myself, doing my own thing. Even if it's a friend, they're not next to me, able to take/receive info on the fly. It's just so much less fun imo.

And you know what hurts the most? Having to play COD. I'm not a hater but, really? Halo>COD any day of the week and now, I have to play it because it's the only big FPS left that does split screen.

I'd have preffered an option to lock resolution and impact performance / dynamic resolution and stable performance.

Its about time consoles gamers be given such flexibility to decide for themselves.

Possibly viable options:

Resolution: 720p / 1080p / Dynamic

Refresh rate: 30fps / maximum

Vsync : on / off / adaptive

Blur effects : on / off

Then "reset" to change to recommended if you need to, gives people the ability to pick and choose what sacrifices to make or not.

As usual halo will be the best console FPS by light years.... Even a broken FPS like MCC comes easily on top if you like all kinds of FPS... So nobody should be worried... Halo still has no competition in the console space quality wise
