I've never bought a home console in the first year. I've always waited for games I want, a price-cut, and sometimes a new model.

I try to buy on day one, with the X1 I had to order it from Germany though so I got it a few months after its US release :).
No real timetable for me. I get it when I get it. Got PS3 day one because I worked retail then. Got PS4
In March 2014.
PC GAMING: BEST GAMES. WORST CONTROLS
A mouse & keyboard are made for sending email and typing internet badassery. Not for playing video games!!!
I entirely depends. I'm never going to immediately assume I'm buying a console day 1, but I currently have no regrets buying my ps4 day one, as the price still hasn't dropped.
I wait for a lot of games I'm interested in to buy a console.
Unless it's Pokémon, that's what makes me buy every Nintendo handheld.
Depends on the console :
Sony home console : Days 1 (i like so many of their franchise)
Nintendo home console : 3 games i want to play (currently 2, but 3 more to come soon)
Microsoft home console : 5 games i want to play (currently 0, but 2 to come soon)
Sony handled : 3 games i want to play (have 21 games)
Nintendo Handled : 5 games i want to play (have 5 games)
I've never bought a console at launch and so far it has served me well. I got my WiiU Wind Waker bundle in 2013 when sales were horrible and retailers were doing their own unofficial pricecuts for 200€ in a sale.
I got my 3ds XL about half a year after it released, though. That was probably the closest to a 'launch' I ever got something (not sure if a new Sku counts in this context...).
Now, I would have gotten the Ps4 at launch if it had been backwards compatible. I entered 7th gen so late that by the time I was in the market for the Ps3 the Ps4 was already announced and if they had magically achieved native backwards compatibility I'd have skipped the Ps3 and went straight for the Ps4.
Right now I'm waiting for more games that really interest me before I jump on it.
