So yesterday, I bought Ocarina of Time on Virtual Console. I figured it was about time to replay the game, and I figured I would do it on my Wii U rather than on my N64, seeing as how it was more convenient for me. Well, that was a sorry investment. Turns out I could've saved myself some money to buy an amiibo. Two glaring problems emerged from playing this version. Keep in mind that I can't say the same for Wii VC, and other people have reports of the first problem on other N64 VC games:
1. Input Lag - This is a serious problem. The input lag is horrendously noticable. It takes about a half second for your inputs to be recognized. This is obvious in parts of the game where you have to do something quickly or take a hit, such as shielding, which I first noticed Inside the Great Deku Tree while fighting Deku Scrubs. It's unacceptable and it makes things like beating enemies more difficult than it has to. Now take that lag and apply it to a 3D platformer like Mario 64, which in many cases requires precision. Verdict: Don't buy some if not all N64 games on Wii U VC if they take even the slightest bit of precision, because you WILL be thrown off.
2. Analog Stick Sensitivity - This makes the Shooting Gallery near impossible. The sensitivity was emulated very wrong. It may be more of a problem with the original N64 not quite exactly having full analog movement, but this could've been optimized for a normal modern controller. I'm not quite sure how to describe it. It's much too sensitive while still having that classic N64 stiffness of the camera. I first noticed this problem also in the Deku Tree, where manually aiming at some Skullwalltulas was a hassle and left me frustrated.
3. Can't Map anything to the D-Pad - For one, you can't expect someone to use an analog stick for something that was designed to be used with the C-Buttons. Now granted, you can map C-Buttons to other buttons, so you can use items better. But using the Ocarina was designed to be used with buttons. There is no easy way of mapping them onto buttons in a way that makes them easy to use or natural, so you are stuck with the analog stick. Using the Ocarina is much too frustrating and slow now. I'm aware this was a problem in the Wii VC version too.
That's what I have to say. Did any of you have problems with an OoT port?
bet: lost
