You do realize what you just said makes no sense right? Allow me to explain.

Confusing PS4 buyers harms Sony and benefits Microsoft, by the defintion of the word harmless, that is not harmless PR talk. Intention and ethicism are irrelevant, point is it is damaging. The amount of cognitive dissonance is amazing, where one can recognize this misbehavior and try to dismiss it simultaneously.

Harmless, as in your everyday PR. Nothing special. You could say that all PR is harmful since the whole point of it is to make consumers pick your product over other's (you get money, your competitor(s) don't) but I think that is taking things a bit too literally.

No, you can't. People can buy multiple consoles. =_=. Also PR affects how a business looks, actively lambasting another is called slander. That is a crime. This isn't slander, but its ridiculous to attest that all PR is meant to do just that.

I'm tired as hell and barely understands anything atm, but that level of effort is about what I feel this topic deserves so I believe it's fitting. I just find the whole thing silly and little more than an attempt at making a chicken farm out of a feather.

Again, bullshit, your conflating PR and damaging PR together in order to dismiss the issue. All PR is the control of public information. PR is neutral, but that doesn't mean it can't inflict harm, which by definition is the opposite of harmless.

The only reason Spencer is talking about Sony, is because he doesn't want to talk about Xbox.

If you find it silly, thats fine, but that doesn't change the facts of what Spencer has done and what it will do.

Well hes doing his job.

He should mind his business.

Man, you REALLY wouldn't have liked the SNES/Genesis and PS1 eras. If you think THIS is bad, read up on how all that went down. The console wars of today are more like pillow fights with candy than "wars".

If Spencer was the one CAUSING the rumors and murmurings of a price drop, then I could maybe see the amount of ire this appears to be drawing, but at this point I'm not really seeing how his contribution is making one iota of difference. o.O The Asian price drop itself was guaranteed to kick up speculation on a Western price drop- especially with two more conferences to go before year's end- and I'd hazard a guess that Andrew House no-commenting 'Will the West be seeing a similar price drop any time soon?' rather than just saying 'Nope!' adds far more weight to the idea of an impending Western price drop than Spencer's flat-out statement.

Hell, I'M cautioning the couple of people who asked me (as resident nerd who pays attention to these things,) to at least wait until November before picking up a PS4, and Spencer's got dick all to do with it. o.O It just seems logical.

Now, don't get me wrong, Spencer does have an agenda, but I don't think it has anything to do with 'tricking' or 'confusing' the consumer into delaying PS4 purchases, (which would literally just be delaying the inevitable anyway, since presumably we're talking about people who've already decided they want to buy one,) and more about trying to portray the Xbox One as a worthy rival that Sony needs to 'respond to.' Simply saying 'I have no idea if Sony is going to do a price drop' would be akin to saying 'Yeah, no idea if Sony's decided our efforts to catch up are actually worth countering.'

Basically, the PR here is the Hercule Satan School of PR.

"HAHA! Y-yeah, that there PS4's got some moves, but I betcha they're trainin' their butts off over there! They're gonna be givin' it their all to try an' go the distance, and they'd better, 'cause they'll be facin' the champ! HAHAHAHA!" *Victory Fingers*

It's all about trying to look like the race is far more neck in neck than it's technically been (especially if you look outside the U.S.) and not letting on that the 'Other Guy' might NOT have to bother pulling out all the stops to take you on.

that's Microsoft's business as usual SOP with Phil Spencer as the paid pawn to do the dirty work. just unclassy as usual

Stop Phil I really liked you, just stop

I think there's a few people on this forum that will spot it straight away. He's trying to create a lull in PS4 sales by spreading misinformation. I find this unacceptable. Business is business but to try and create a lull in sales by suggesting your opposition is likely to announce a price drop at the Paris Games Week is below the belt. It might not have a huge effect but this is exactly what he's doing here.:

Xbox Boss Expects PS4 Price Drop in US

Speaking with IGN in an interview for next week's episode of Podcast Unlocked, Xbox head Phil Spencer spoke about the recent price cut on the PlayStation 4 in Japan, expressing his confidence in the likelihood of it soon happening in the west.

"I fully expect they [PlayStation] will drop price. When I think about the playbook they've used in the past, we feel good about the plans we have in place going forward in the holiday. If history tells, then we'll see a price drop from them coming."

Spencer also mentioned Sony's presence at Paris Games Week, suggesting perhaps an announcement could be made at that time. But, he doesn't necessarily feel threatened by the possibility and even suggests it would be a good thing.

"It's great for gamers when price competition happens. We saw that last holiday, and we saw crazy sales numbers on all of the consoles," he said.

I've noticed that phil spinny talks more about the ps4 than the xbone. It is getting a little pathetic and he needs to be reminded he is the head of xnone and not playstation.

Well... it is likely that they will.

With that said, he is just playing the victim cause he is getting desperate after that TGS conference. Loads of new PS4 exclusives announced and nothing for XB1. The tables are becoming one sided... he is trying to do what he can, but i dont think he will make the difference you think he does. Even without a price cut, the PS4 is becoming a much higher value proposition than the X1 with sheer title exclusivity.

Why in the hell does anybody care so much about what he says anyways? Seems that he needs to worry more about his own product, and what he can do to try and catch up to the ever growing sales gap, that the PS4 has.

And here I thought that lying about "the greatest line up in Xbox history" was enough. Apparently not.
