Videogame specialist retailer GAME has launched a dedicated virtual reality (VR) space on it’s official website, game.co.uk. Allowing gamers to register their interest, the section features trailers, images specifications and more of all the major head-mounted displays (HMDs) coming to retail.

Following the launch of the official Merge VR pre-order campaign on GAME, this new section features the key players in the field: Valve and HTC’s collaborative HTC Vive, Oculus VR’s Oculus Rift and Sony Computer Entertainment’s PlayStation VR. Sadly, the latter of these currently does not reflect the most recent announcements and is still listed as ‘Project Morpheus’, the name PlayStation VR was originally christened with at the Game Developers Conference (GDC), San Francisco, in 2014.

In addition to the HTC Vive, PlayStation VR and Oculus Rift, Microsoft’s HoloLens also appears on the new VR dedicated section of the website. Widely believed to be far further from a consumer release than the 3 key HMDs, the HoloLens is the only device which doesn’t have either an opportunity to ‘register interest’ or pre-order.

At present, the plans for traditional retail distribution of all of these HMDs is not yet known. It’s highly likely that all of the respective manufacturers will be intending to distribute their HMDs online first, with a traditional retail push to follow. Well thats really cool.

Thank fuck for that. The biggest problem with VR is that most people need to use it to be sold, this will give people that oppertunity. Nice to see the whole industry trying to get behind this to give it the best chance.

Awesome! I really hope this shows the haters how good VR can be.

Hopefully we will see this in Gamestop, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, and many more places over the next few years. People have to try it, to believe it, and once they do, these things will be the smartphone of home media and productivity.
