2017 no matter how much the Ninty haters want to believe its 2016. Unless its NX portable which would make sense.

Actually I am Nintendo fan and I think NX is coming in 2016.

"first place" by default, PS4 is going to easily overtake it once all those Japanese games, like Dragon Quest XI start showing up. And a "me too PS4" launching in 2017 attracts North America and Europe how exactly?

By having more games ready if the dev kits are out. Launch linup is far more inportant than Dragon Quest XI on a worldwide scale. We may be able to agree on this.

Unless they're planning to launch with 500 titles, they're going to be woefully behind Sony/MS especially by 2017 anyway.

If that's what they're planning to do, they may as well just accept the console part of the NX equation is just a small niche product for like 10-15 million, even most Nintendo fans won't buy it (as most Nintendo fans today overwhelmingly choose a 3DS 5:1 over a Wii U).

The PS4/XB1 strong hold on the core market? Hah. Good luck Nintendo. By then the XBox One and PS4 could be $250 too, so the NX won't even have the benefit of being a "aw, shucks, it's the low cost cute Nintendo console for families" thing going for it, as Sony/MS' pricing will start to reach into that territory already.

MS will probably start talking about XB2 around 2017 too, because I think they are going to want to launch in 2018, trying to get a 1 year lead time on Sony again.

I think its safe to assume the portable version of NX will launch sometime between June-Dec. '16. Its also a safe bet to guess it'll be powerful enough to receive Wii U titles, like Zelda UNX.

So unless Nintendo is really desperate to ditch the Wii U because of negative branding/image issues, they can actually ride the NX and Wii U combo for a year or two. There will be no urgency to release a home version of NX, and Nintendo can take its time to decide on whether they want a simple tiny box version of the portable, or a higher end version. The longer Nintendo takes, the better chances of them going with the modern AMD 14nm tech. which IMO means the worst case scenario would be a PS4 level system in 2017.

Nintendo: And here's our PS4 level system launching with 10 games in fall 2017

Microsoft: And here's our new XBox, launching fall 2018 that's 15 times more powerful with 4K resolution.

It'll just be Wii U all over again.

AMD's 14nm tech is ready to go for 2016 anyway. Use it for fuck's sake Nintendo, not every new product you make needs to have technology  from the stone age.

It will be delayed so it eventually becomes good.

It already has two non-Nintendo titles announced for it, in fact the only two games we know for it are Dragon Quest XI and Dragon Quest X from Square-Enix.

I imagine dev kits are out, but this time Nintendo is putting stronger NDAs on them so developers don't leak details.

Nintendo just approached Western third parties last E3. They would have about a year to port or develop a game. Iwata has said before that nintendo would not make the same mistakes again and release their next console without enough launch titles or with a big drought after the release. To me It seems more like a 2017 launch than 2016.

1.5 years is plenty of time to develop a game. Devs had the same amount of time getting ready for PS4 / X1 and that worked so your argument is invalid. And Square certainly didn't announce Dragon Quest without knowing the specs of the console or before having extensive meetings with Nintendo reps. The devs know about NX and they have known about ist for some Time now.

There is plenty of evidence pointing to a 2016 launch (please don't make me make a list), you guys just don't *want* the console to release that early. But we all know this is going to change very quickly once Nintendo unveils NX at e3 next year and announces Zelda, Metroid and the next Mario game.

Thats the thing I don't think Nintendo will use 14nm next year, they love their mature nodes.  Hopefully, Kimishima will slap some sense into some of the HW decision makers.

Like its been discussed on these forums, receiving big 3rd party support would be a bonus.  IMO, Nintendo releasing a significantly more powerful version of the portable NX, would be to add value to the big screen option.  There is a decent chance of a  mere "NXtv" flopping badly, which is why I think a semi powerful console is still possible in the future.

I think it's coming in 2016. I think the proof for this is Nintendo's announced restructuring of it's development studios. The last time this happened was in 2004, 2 years before the Wii was released. I think it's apparent that they're reforming to prepare for the next generation of console development.

So, a lot of people here assumed that 2016 there would be no games coming to the Wii U, except LoZ, but that would be cross platform. However, there seems to be enough titles that I'm still convinced the NX will be a 2017 launch. Let's just look at the big titles we know are coming.

Pokken

LoZ Wii U

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem

*Edit* Pikmin 4

Add one more bigger project (with the inclusion of Pikmin 4, we are pretty much at the bar for bigger titles) and count the smaller projects like Mario and Sonic at the 2016 Olympics (this is a thing right?) and it looks like any of the other years release schedule for the Wii U. That said, I hope we do get an announcement at E3 this year on what the NX is and what it looks like. So what do you think?

I agree with the NX being launched in 2017. Nov 2017 to be exact.

We know Zelda is on Wii U and I doubt they will delay it for 2 years. So we will most likely see it Nov 2016 at the latest.

I agree though. Especially if we get shown a few more big projects for the Wii U in 2016, I doubt we will be getting the NX so soon. And if we do, it won't replace Wii U and the Wii U will still be getting games after the NX (if it releases 2016)

I just don't see nintendo unveiling and releasing the nx in the same year. No way. No one has done that. Especially nintendo.nx 2017. Guarantee it.

PS4, XBox One, XBox 360 ring a bell? It would be more like Nintendo just stepping back into line with everyone else. The 3DS was also announced, shown, and released within 12 months.

Announcing a product and then telling consumers "have fun waiting 2 years for this" is a very outdated concept.

Hey, I agree that waiting more than a year is stupid. And I was obviously wrong about other systems announcements and their releases, but that proves exactly dick when it comes to nintendo. Because nintendo has always done what everyone else is doing right? Maybe the new president will do things differently, I sure hope so, but at this point, to say it's going to be unveiled next year, and released next year is unfounded... no  matter how many xbox or playstations  have done it, or how many you add to a list about it, simply because of the company we're talking about here.
