I think its safe to assume the portable version of NX will launch sometime between June-Dec. '16. Its also a safe bet to guess it'll be powerful enough to receive Wii U titles, like Zelda UNX.

So unless Nintendo is really desperate to ditch the Wii U because of negative branding/image issues, they can actually ride the NX and Wii U combo for a year or two. There will be no urgency to release a home version of NX, and Nintendo can take its time to decide on whether they want a simple tiny box version of the portable, or a higher end version. The longer Nintendo takes, the better chances of them going with the modern AMD 14nm tech. which IMO means the worst case scenario would be a PS4 level system in 2017.

Nintendo: And here's our PS4 level system launching with 10 games in fall 2017

Microsoft: And here's our new XBox, launching fall 2018 that's 15 times more powerful with 4K resolution.

It'll just be Wii U all over again.

AMD's 14nm tech is ready to go for 2016 anyway. Use it for fuck's sake Nintendo, not every new product you make needs to have technology  from the stone age.

Thats the thing I don't think Nintendo will use 14nm next year, they love their mature nodes.  Hopefully, Kimishima will slap some sense into some of the HW decision makers.

Like its been discussed on these forums, receiving big 3rd party support would be a bonus.  IMO, Nintendo releasing a significantly more powerful version of the portable NX, would be to add value to the big screen option.  There is a decent chance of a  mere "NXtv" flopping badly, which is why I think a semi powerful console is still possible in the future.
