Either a billion dollars, or signature control.

I've been predicting a 2016 launch before the NX was announced.

Mmmm, the billion dollars is very tempting, but I'll go with the sig control. Lol.

Alright good sir (or ma'am).

Not sure if it will be 2016 or 2017, but one thing I am pretty confident on is that the home console NX will barely be more powerful than the PS4. It is clear that Nintendo have no interest in competing directly with X1 & PS4 in that regard.  For a start, I think they will make more deals with third parties to experiment with IPs, like Hyrule Warriors, go in harder on Amiibo's and other merchandise that tie in with games, and make the overall platform with the handheld as attractive as possible. What they do In addition to that is what is most interesting.

I really wonder what the main controller will be like for the home console though.

i just think Zelda was delayed to extend the 2016 Nintendo titles. NX would still be for 2017, and could get a port of the Zelda U.
we would definitely get better information on E3 2016. we have similar threads like this, and i'm still going for the 2017 NX release.

just collate the names of voting for 2017 against 2016. Team 2016 against Team 2017.

So, a lot of people here assumed that 2016 there would be no games coming to the Wii U, except LoZ, but that would be cross platform. However, there seems to be enough titles that I'm still convinced the NX will be a 2017 launch. Let's just look at the big titles we know are coming.

Pokken

LoZ Wii U

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem

*Edit* Pikmin 4

Add one more bigger project (with the inclusion of Pikmin 4, we are pretty much at the bar for bigger titles) and count the smaller projects like Mario and Sonic at the 2016 Olympics (this is a thing right?) and it looks like any of the other years release schedule for the Wii U. That said, I hope we do get an announcement at E3 this year on what the NX is and what it looks like. So what do you think?

Seems fine, especially if some end up being cross platform. It's not like there are actually that many lol.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

I think NX is primarily the portable. The console will be a secondary/complimentary piece of the puzzle.

Fact is, even among Nintendo fans, 80% of them choose not to buy a Nintendo console in both of the GCN and Wii U generations, the Wii was also significantly outsold by the DS, and now we are getting to the point where 3D graphics in mobile will be able to do very nice looking versions of every Nintendo IP.

The console unless it has a new miracle controller like the Wii that brings back casuals is going to be a distant third place if it launches in 2016 even. But 2017 ... lol, forget it. It has no chance whatsoever of being competitive.

It'll be like the Dreamcast scenario, where they launched a year before the real next-gen started, except I doubt Nintendo will even have hardware that powerful ... the Dreamcast was a good several times beyond the PSOne/N64 at least, which the NX is unlikely to be.

As such I think the home console NX is just a secondary type thing for Nintendo (maybe that's why it's digital only perhaps). I would be surprised if it's the main part of the NX family.

If Nintendo doesn't release a competitive console they are done.

Realistically though how is this even supposed to work. Going by current sales rate and assuming some normal mid-generation acceleration for PS4/XB1 sales as their prices drop and the library grows ...

November 2017 -
PS4 - 60+ million users, $249-$299 price, 1200+ titles
XB1 - 30+ million users, $249, 1200+titles
NX - 0 users, $249 (?), 12-15 launch titles

March 2018 (fiscal year end) - Lets even assume the console NX by some miracle sells as fast as the original Wii in its first 4 months on market ...

PS4 - 65+ million users, $249.99, 550+ titles
XB1 - 34+ million users, $249.99, 550+ titles
NX - 5.8 million users, $249.99, 20-35 titles

And by June 2018, you probably have Microsoft showing XBox Next-Gen 4K.

Launching a "comparable" console 4 years after your competetion isn't a stratey, it's stupidity -- provided that's what your banking on to carry your business. If console NX is just a complimentary piece to the handheld, that's a different story.

If Nintendo releases a console with the intention of competing head on with Sony/Microsoft they are done. What will cause owners of Playstation/Xbox to jump ship to Nintendo? Ports of games that are on the competitors consoles as well? That certainly won't do.

I dont know what the NX is. But I do know that the Wii U wont be replaced with updated hardware until 2017 at the earliest.

2017. is latest when they will release new hardware.
