I think NX is primarily the portable. The console will be a secondary/complimentary piece of the puzzle.
Fact is, even among Nintendo fans, 80% of them choose not to buy a Nintendo console in both of the GCN and Wii U generations, the Wii was also significantly outsold by the DS, and now we are getting to the point where 3D graphics in mobile will be able to do very nice looking versions of every Nintendo IP.
The console unless it has a new miracle controller like the Wii that brings back casuals is going to be a distant third place if it launches in 2016 even. But 2017 ... lol, forget it. It has no chance whatsoever of being competitive.
It'll be like the Dreamcast scenario, where they launched a year before the real next-gen started, except I doubt Nintendo will even have hardware that powerful ... the Dreamcast was a good several times beyond the PSOne/N64 at least, which the NX is unlikely to be.
As such I think the home console NX is just a secondary type thing for Nintendo (maybe that's why it's digital only perhaps). I would be surprised if it's the main part of the NX family.
