Its strange that Sony would ignore such a huge market in favour of smaller East Asian ones.

And from software numbers we can see how much it matters that it can't be pirated. PS4 software is almost twice as high as PS2 software, despite only having sold a bit more hardware.

Also I presume this is excluding Japan?

PS4 sold 73k in China so far, and I'm not talking about all East Asian markets, but smaller ones like Phillipines and Malaysia. Indians are quite crazy behind PS4, a price cut would have cemented its success there.

Piracy does affect software sales. PSP software sales after 2010 almost entirely crashed due to piracy. PS2 piracy was rampant and its software sales were low despite high hardare sales. PS3 was a relatively small success compared to PS2 but due to being hard to pirate its software sales have been consistently high. Btw Im talking about India.

If the HW sales are so good right now, imagine when the PS4 security gets cracked and piracy on the console starts. A PS4 per habitant.

Can't really see that happening unless this is a very long gen and it gets some serious life support later on from PSnow. Still tho, would be awesome to see another console do that well worldwide.
